Re: Five reasons to love ravers on the playa

The same reasons that people loved/hated disco enthusiasts back in the 70's is the same reason people love/hate ravers today. Disco had its time, and it had its place. I'm sure that many of the people who produced the disco music were deeply immersed in the complexities of the tunes and the meanings...

Yes on that. You have to be really, really, extremely sensitive about the subject. Even Obama can't win when he mentions it.

Re: Does your theme camp embrace racial diversity?

Touchy touchy. I lifted those words from the lyrics of "Don't try to lay any boogie woogie on the king of rock and roll" by Long John Baldry.
"It's a kind of jazz-rhythm music
Peculiar to the American Negro"
He was talking about early rock and roll. And I made it politically correct no less!

Re: Does your theme camp embrace racial diversity?

Our camp plays a healthy dose of music peculiar to the African American urban demographic. That's a small part of how our theme camp embraces racial diversity.

Re: Ask Elliot

lDear Elliot, will there be any hypnotist camps on the playa this year? I believe I was abducted by aliens a few years ago, and I suspect they have erased it from my memory. I'm hoping that a hypnotist can bring the true facts of what transpired that night into light.

There is no simply going each others way once you have children together. I think if you're going to have children, you might as well get married. I think it's nice to see that marriages happen at Burning Man.

Hey Elliot, I didn't get an answer from that other guy's advice forum, so I thought I'd come to you. I went to him first because his advice column was up before yours, not playing any favorites or anything. OK, the question: Do you know any fun pranks to do with bungee balls?

No.
This Ask Eric thing doesn't seem to be working out for me anymore. I'll have to go back to asking the entire eplaya community my questions.

Re: Ask Eric

Dear Eric, In the past few years, I have walked around the playa holding a bungee ball by the plastic ball end. I'd walk up to a person with the elastic pointed toward them, and they'd grab the elastic end and instinctively pull on it in response to when I pulled it away from them. When I felt there...

Re: Join Camps? Building a structure and need land? New frie

The way around this is to charge enough money to become a plug and play camp. You can hire workers from the front of Home Depot. They generally do not wish for a multi-day job away from home, the dust, and the weirdness of burning man, but if you pay them enough, they'll still do the job.

Re: Ask Eric

Dear Eric, I am deathly afraid of birds, so I'm working on a method to keep them from flying into my camp. I have heard that birds are afraid of owls, and that some outfitting stores sell plastic owls to use as a repellant decoy to keep the birds at bay. However, I'm afraid of owls too, and those br...

Although I now embrace plug and plays, I still honor the 10 principles of Burning Man, my whole camp does, and I'd like the BMORG, the placement team in particular, to be aware that we still honor the principles.

Re: Are plug and plays brainwashing the new burners?

The reality of the biggest plug and play camps is that they do not generally market to individual customers. The one I know of has just one billionaire client, and he throws an all-star party at that camp who each then pay the required fee. Plug and Ply will step up in addressing the needs of the in...

Re: 2013 REMINDER: PROTECT YOUR SKIN FROM THE DUST

I've found that a pre-playa pedicure helps immensely. Once there, a daily vinegar foot bath (ooh!aah!) and lotion keeps my feet doing the happy dance ... I've never had a pedicure, but after my first Burning Man experience, I've learned to use a pumice stone to scrub the yucky stuff off my feet dur...

Know that not everyone has skin that reacts negatively to this dust. BUT you wont know until you get there.
