Re: It's Official. Feathers are OK on the playa!

The fact that they decided to make Burning Man a non-profit says something - unless there is some nefarious conspiracy why they're doing that.

Re: Are plug and plays brainwashing the new burners?

Jeebus, this thread is still alive? Each year it's something that people what to talk about. One thing about joining a plug and play is that while an oral contract is legally binding, it would still be prudent pay via charge card and to get the amenities that are offered in exchange for the members...

Re: It's Official. Feathers are OK on the playa!

I still don't believe it's a business mainly interested in revenue generation. If they were to consistently break even with payroll met, I do not believe they would start compromising the principles in order to get profits up.

Wouldn't suggesting that people at Burning Man drink water be a burnier than thou mentality? They can go completely dry if that's how they want to express themselves.

It would be a liability to be climbing on something with people below you and have something fall out. Maybe that's why they discontinued that design.

You guys won this debate. I will never mention plug and play on this chat site again or visit such threads, and I will not discourage plug and plays as an option to people I meet at regional events who are curious about Burning Man. Plug and plays: in. Costumes: out. Feathers: in. What's next? Wait...

Re: Are plug and plays brainwashing the new burners?

I'd say one simple line in the sand not to cross would be giving placement to camps that use paid employees to work in the camps at the BM festival while the festival is going on to take care of basic camping needs for able bodied attendees. WHO THE FUCK DIED AND MADE YOU Larry? jesus christ, the u...

Re: Are plug and plays brainwashing the new burners?

Actually, we went through a similar debate on a website dedicated to Baja California travel. One side wished for Baja to remain on option for adventure travel with camping, fishing, and watersports permitted on the coastal areas. The other side was in favor of all inclusive resorts. The side in favo...

Re: Are plug and plays brainwashing the new burners?

I think Tom Servo is firmly entrenched in the old school of thought against the notion that if Burning Man can change to more resemble all the other festivals out there, it must do so, and we must embrace that occurance. Take a dozen photos of the crowd at 12 different festies, and you'll see they a...

Re: Are plug and plays brainwashing the new burners?

I have changed my position to being pro-plug and play and now embrace the idea that paying money for accommodations can supercede radical self-reliance. I am also now considering taking a pro-MOOP stance, and I suspect that many here will join together in popular opposing opinion in favor that BM re...

I've used these, and they work well. They don't like us to post commercial links. Try doing a google search for "emt canopy two way fitting." And yes on the blue tape in case you strip the screws and/or bring a few extra fittings.

Just save up your money and join a plug and play camp. There is no need to bring anything and do all that camping nonsense they are talking about. The plug and play camps are just like an all inclusive hotel.

Re: It's Official. Feathers are OK on the playa!

The bright lights, lasers, loud music, and other factors have been causing birds to avoid flying over BRC during the festival resulting in a net lessor number of feathers deposited on the playa even when feathers discharged from costumes and decorative attire is taken into account.

If you can score a canvas tent on craigslist, I'd go ahead and buy it and try it, but also bring a small two person tent in case the big one fails. You can use the small tent for storage in the meantime.

Re: Are plug and plays brainwashing the new burners?

One interesting thing about the big time Plug and Plays is that the employees have their own living quarters, and when they are off shift, they are not to attempt to visit and fraternize in the paying clients' area. While the client's who pay $10,000 to for Plug and Play membership will occasionally...

My friend who broadcasted the scanner activity still has those recorded into mp3s. I'm sure it won't compromise life and limb to play police radio activity from yesteryear. Anybody who wants to listen to LEA activity can simply buy a scanner. It's not classified information. It's just that the cops ...

Re: Are plug and plays brainwashing the new burners?

I think it would be a more accurate question to ask if the plug and play culture is changing the mentality of new attendees of Burning Man. Would the idea that camps exist that have paid staff to pamper the clients' every need change the expectations of new burners if they join the non affluent camp...
