Re: 2017 One Item A Day For BM List......

Still making foam stamps for the 'Make your Family Crest' event at our camp. So what would you want on your family crest? Ratty, these are incredible! What a fun idea. My crest would ideally have a tree and/or mountain. And a squirrel or a dog or a chickadee... something curious and a bit excitable...

Re: Hiring for Costco Soulmate Trading Outlet!

I have experience as both a satisfied customer of Costco® and as a nearby neighbor for multiple years. This business enriches our local community and enhances property value for all nearby ventures. I imagine they are an excellent resource for new hires looking to get experience, or for those lookin...

There's also a fairly active group in San Diego. Check out the regional newsletter for their weekly bar meetup. If anybody in the area is doing big art, that's a great way to hear about it and get involved.

It took a lot longer than I projected, but I did finally pass the certification test today to use most of the equipment. My buddy does th...

The Burning Man ultramarathon is organized by the good folks at camp Pink Lightning. More info here http://www.burningman50k.com

They also do a 5k, I believe.

Welcome to eplaya, and to the burn.

Re: Water-based-art on Playa?

The Lamplighter lounge used to have a water fountain feature. People loved the sound, but it was apparently a huge mud puddle at the end of every year and thus a pain to pack up. It was before my time, so I don't know the details, but I suppose I could ask around if you're interested.

Welcome to eplaya (and Burning Man), Lucas! Your spirit of wanting to help as part of the community is very welcome, and makes for more fun! Center Camp is a great place for spoken word art - they've got a stage that's the right size for it, with mics and everything set up for you. They also need MC...

Re: a text adventure videogame set at Burning Man

Played three stories. Text as a medium is a good choice to capture the "anything could happen" world of the playa. Pages were brief enough to mirror the sorts of memories I hace of the burn: snippets of interactions that are vivid but often out of place or unmoored. Thanks for sharing!

Newest proportions, probably last iteration before we purchase the steel: - 5x7 foot platform - slightly longer wheelbase than before, at 39" (was 37"; every little bit helps the tipping issue) - 3.5 foot handlebar instead of 3 foot - 3 foot tower height (center of the shaft to the platform) - 3.5 f...

Re: Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car

Tiller stick steering was Le Chat Noir's solution for The Contraption, though I think he did front/back rather than left/right, perhaps to save space, perhaps for easier linkage. What I do like about this option is it means it might be possible to have the thing "headless," by locking one tiller str...

Yet another reason I love you, Ratty!

For organisms of study and as objects of fascination, reptiles and amphibians win out for me, in particular snakes and lizards.

Re: Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car

We've been discussing a flywheel for exactly the reason you describe, Token. It does make things more complex, with the clutches and all. Might look into scooter centrifugal clutches... If we forgo a flywheel, we figure we give the thing a running push start. It'd suck when getting stuck in a playa ...

Thank you, von Braun! I will endeavor to post more regularly; at the very least when we have something to show... Second 3D-printed model, with longer wheelbase and shorter (3.5') lever. First 3D-printed model. No steering or drive train implemented, but having a physical object in hand really helps us get a feel for things. Already we can tell that there wouldn't have been enough space for the lever, and that we'd probably like the wheelbase to be longer. http://i.imgur.com/Y2w7OBL...

I owe everyone an update. Not surprisingly, considering when inspiration struck, the hand car was not built in time for the 2016 burn. Just over 800 lanterns were lit, raised throughout the city, and then collected in the morning, day in and day out. Lamplighters will always light the city, without fail.
