Re: Has anyone used a surplus military tent?

Yeah, to echo what was said before, Kodiaks and Springbars are almost identical. Kodiaks are made in China, but other than that they are incredibly similar. I think the floor on the Kodiak is a bit nicer, and the deluxe Kodiak model (vs the basic) also comes with a nice "gear loft" thing that you ca...

Sweet, this is all very reassuring; end of this month is good news. I just had one of those "oh no, what if i'm already too late?" sort of moments.

Timing for booking Reno hotel/car/box truck?

So it looks like this will be my first year flying into and out of Reno instead of going through LA like I normally do. For those fellow Reno travelers, is there a general timeline for "you really should have a hotel room for the few days before Burning Man booked by X, as they tend to sell out by X...

Re: Official starting and ending times?

I will give you this advice: Your drive to burning man will be pretty easy - the excitement of going, the cross-country adventure, etc... However, your drive home will be exhausting. The desert is extremely hard on one's body. You will not sleep properly, your endurance will be tested to the limits...

Re: RV Generator vs. Engine Advice

Hi, We are looking at renting an RV without a generator. It has a coach battery that everything runs on. Is this going to be a problem? We have no idea and need some advice. Questions: -Can we run our fridge and our kitchen equipment? -Can we run aircon for a few hours in the day? -Do we need to ru...

Re: Playa Lung Dust Masks

I use a mix of the Rz Mask (that's a lot like the playalung mask) and a long thick bandanna, depending on conditions. I really dig the Rz mask; it's pretty comfy, doesn't interfere with my goggle seal, and the filter parts are cheap and super easy to replace (and I usually end up replacing them twic...

My idea is pretty simple this year, and also super-dinky (especially since i'm coming cross-coast), but might be fun. I call it One Stroke. I'll set up up four canvases of varying sizes (probably hang from a line so they can flap free when windy and not rip apart, then weight them down from the bott...

The PB&J cart is a yummy snack. Most definitely; It also had the two magical properties of (a) never being *that* crowded so you didn't have to wait long, and (b) they brought a TON of supplies so they didn't run out too early. There was also that shave ice camp right next to Pickle Joint... can't ...

Re: New guy from Ohio, plan on driving out.

One other thing i'd strongly reccommend is *not* trying to marathon drive back to Ohio right after BM ends. Take a day or two in Reno, or Colorado, or something. You will be utterly and completely exhausted, and even carpooling it among 3 or 4 drivers can be absolutely brutal for the drive home. So ...

I realized that (at least for me), the extra $200-250 was worth the peace of mind of not having to worry about whether or not I would get a ticket, blocking off the sale day to devote to sitting in front of the computer desperately trying for a ticket, etc etc, so as a NYE gift to myself I pulled th...

great idea!! one might consider a ring, around the outside, or near the outside, of the hammock poles, for added strength and stability. a person, hanging that far out on just the central mount, is a lot of leverage. a simple band of flat bar (let alone angle or tube) would add a lot of strength an...

strangely enough... cucumbers.

Sliced cucumbers and some decent mustard turns a POS cold-cut sandwich into a DELI MASTERPIECE.

Other than that, twizzlers.
