Re: The Hookah Lounge

Maybe we can grind up spam, shape it like a dog, and cook with a Binford 9000 weed eater.

Re: Weening off calories in preparation...

Dave's Killer Bread will last all week kept in a dry cooler in the shade. It is full of seeds/grains, has lots of calories and makes great sandwiches. Winco in Reno carries it. And AntiM nailed it, ever so politely, about eating a lot of nuts. Really bad plan unless you want to spend lots of time in...

Re: HARDY Produce for the Playa?

I've had better luck with fruits/vegatables with keeping them in a box in a really shady spot rather than putting them into coolers with ice. Ones to try are bananas (get ones from sort of ripe to very green, so they ripen at different times), tomatoes, potatoes, onions, avocados, and peppers. They ...

Re: RV rental suggestions?

Be free RV in Portland, OR may still have some. Same route as dragonpilot said, but 3 hours less and no sales tax.

Re: Who else thinks a caravan is a great idea?

Last year we had a small caravan traveling the 500 miles from Vancouver WA to BRC, starting at 0:dark:30 and arriving at the gate about 7 PM. We had an RV, and overloaded SUV, and a small SUV hauling a trailer. A lot of the route is outside of cell range. It was a lot of fun, and worked well for tra...

Re: Playa Condition Prediction

Just back from a whirlwind road trip from WA state thru Oakland and Reno, with a stop at Gearlach for breakfast at Bruno's on the return trip. Drove out to 3 mile entrance and took a short walk on the playa. No standing water visible in that area. However, surface was a bit dark/damp, and down a cou...

Re: Burner Friendly RV Companies

Be Free RV out of Portland, OR rents to burners (though it may be late for this years booking). They normally charge burners a non-refundable deposit, but my husband and I have used them for 8 years and always take them black clean, so our deposit is "waived" so long as we behave themselves. Portlan...

One thing that WILL change this year is that I'll remember to bring Fandango some serious mixers.. at just the right moment.
Fandango announced last month they won't be making it this year.

Re: Aussie first timer looking for trip advice!

Mr Tumbles, Congratulations on getting a ticket! (1-2) Your budget should be do-able with selective shopping. Reno has a wide selection of everything from big box to thrift stores, as well as military surplus. However, unless you get hooked up with folks in Reno, I would seriously consider shortenin...
