Re: Prepping from FALLON, NV

The staff at the RV rental place we have used for 11 years laugh about people who rent and claim they have not gone to burningman. No GPS tracker involved. It is the rental period, mileage, and the dust that gets them. Even if you really clean the interior, there is still the engine compartment, air...

Re: Placed Camp Questionnaire - New Launch Date March 4th

I don't think there is a "typical" X square feet for X people. Giant shade structure? Kitchen? Public bar? Art project in camp? RVs? Tents? Parking for cars, trailers, box trucks, mutant vehicles? The request should match what you need to make your camp work. Draw up a camp layout and it will all be...

Re: Placed Camp Questionnaire - New Launch Date March 4th

Thanks Elliott. I know why and I'm totally on board with their reasoning. It's nice when they are just across the street. (Not so nice when they are in my tent, car, ice chest.) We'll just camp on whatever. We don't care. Now I'm thinking a street away is even better because they aren't allowed to ...

Re: Placed Camp Questionnaire - New Launch Date March 4th

The only options I can think of to guarantee you will be next to kid camp would be to 1) remain a separate theme camp, but do a village application including both (or maybe other) affiliated camps. Or even easier since your group is so small, just have kid camp carve out a spot for you.

Re: "HOPE"

Just google 100' reel tape. You will find them in stores that sell construction supplies or surveying equipment. This one was listed as coaching supplies, and was the cheapest one that showed up on a quick search ($26): A94-511.jpg I've owned a surveyor model for years. Gets used for camp and pyro l...

Re: Kombucha and Cold Brewed Coffee

Canoe nailed it. If serving to public, add dairy based creamer = permit. Its all about food safety. Making/serving coffee just needs clean hands/coffee utensils/water. Dairy products are much more of a challenge to avoid spoilage. And serving into the drinkers cup saves washing cups, or supplying mo...

Re: "HOPE"

I just caught the part about the 60' dimension. So since that must just be part of it, gives me a great excuse to ask... HOW BIG IS IT? Even the little walls for our theme camp frontage get drawn out with AutoCAD so we can get angles/distances preplanned. Makes it easy for our playified brains to la...

Re: "HOPE"

100' tape on a reel is oh so easy. Start with the tape laid out on the ground, held down as needed. Mark off the post locations, lay out the main structural pieces at the right dimensions, and start building. Besides ease of use, the big advantage is that the entire team can use it. If you just have...

Re: Experienced RV Renters: RV Hiring Woe's

You could try Rent RV in Portland, OR. About same distance as Las Vegas, 11-12 hour drive. Have rented from them for 10 years and had good service. And they advertise that they rent to burningman participants. The earlier booked, the better for both price and selection. Took care of ours a couple of...

So how much should I budget for the rental? I can calculate gas costs, and my credit card covers all the insurance , so I just need to figure out how much the rental and cleaning after will be. Are you sure of that? Might read the fine print. The credit card car insurance policies I have seen all e...

Re: What do the sound restrictions really mean?

Speaker orientation is a big factor. Last year we had a dance camp set up across the street from us. First morning, we could not hear conversaations within our camp. Noticed the dance camp had their speakers aimed right at us. Went across the street and politely asked that they play music for their ...

Facts in a thread titled Tesla vs. Willy Wonka????? An internet search for Tesla has enough theories to get him right up there with Area 51 and swamp gas. Re: Discount cheap free kitchen gear?

While I personally do not like communal kitchens, largely due to all the grey water and drama they tend to generate, they have their place and lots of camps have them. Personally, I am happy for any camp that says they are bringing all of their own food and preparing it. Every year we get more and m...

I like it!
The robots that won the DARPA completion actually have humanoid shapes, and the video showed them climbing ladders, picking up boards, and using electric drills. Perfect camp constructors! Add the Nicolas Cage face for a few lousy million more and we are all set.

I would buy a fleet of robots like the one owned by a Google Corporation that just won the DARPA competition, and turn them lose on camp and art project construction. Then we could all sit in the shade and enjoy root beer floats out of our walk-in freezers.

Wow. I am amazed to learn that taking a lot of stuff to burning man = being wealthy. I am sure the folks on this board who take, among other things, gigantic school buses loaded with bicycles and infrastructure will be glad to learn that. Burners tend to be scroungers, and hard work and creativity a...

My only experience is from camping near a few of them that were unbaffled. So took a quick look on line. Honda EU rated at 55-59 db. Champion rated at 68 db at 23 feet . For more meaningful comparisons: 70 db: Passenger car at 65 mph at 25 ft (77 dB); freeway at 50 ft from pavement edge 10 a.m. (76 ...

One last try.

Registering your camp/art piece will get you placement and EE. Never, ever have heard of a camp getting registered with no EE granted. Not registering your camp and showing up early will get you D lot.

Not sure where you are going with the "need" comments. What got those camps in early is that they jumped through all the hoops for the registration process, which got them an assigned spot, and X number of EE passes based on their application. EE passes are granted for registered theme camps, art pi...

++ to what Fishy said above. Don't beat about the bush once the decision has been made: make it clear and direct to all involved what the policy is. The "involved" word is really the point. When a camp/village grows so much that no one really knows who is there, kind of hard to "notify" everyone th...
