Re: Details on the placement process?

Just for ideas, attached a photo of my husbands mobile art piece. The trailer is home made, and the only trailer parts with much significant cost (at least so he tells me) were the tires. It can be moved manually, or behind a non-mutated vehicle. If a MV is used, they must be registered together. P1...

Re: Details on the placement process?

What Eric said. And keep in mind - it is part of every theme camp's and village's drama that none of them (well, except for maybe First Camp...) know prior to July if they will be placed, where they will be placed, or how many early entry passes will be allocated. And longevity does not guarantee pl...

Try it in your refrigerator first. I think you will find damp vegies + non-breathable container = mold.

I am sure in the spirit of gifting the motives of the treat givers would be more benign than an entity motivated by profit.. but be wary if you have a "nut" allergy! Not so sure about the "benign motive". One of our EspressoCamp Baristas liked to say "step right up and let me put somethin...

Re: Newb question about camp size?

Royal Turkey - you might do a search for aerial photos of the city; there are a number that are posted on eplaya and news sites. Those should give you a better idea of overall density and city layout. As noted, things spread out a lot in most of the outer rings. And for some odd reason there are usu...

2014 should be a good year for stars. New moon on Monday August 25. This year was not so great largely due to the forest fire smoke.

Re: Questions about lnt, gray water removal, large kitchens

If you want to cook on that BBQ, bring it. However, since it is charcoal, remember all the ashes will have to be bagged up after they are completely cold and packed out. If you want to burn paper trash, there are numerous public burn barrels. This approach will work best if you burn small amounts du...

We were camped on A street, sort of facing the backside of PlayaSurfers, which ran from Esplanade back to A. While their main emphasis was Tiki Island, moored on esplanade, the camp did have an active A street bar. Way to go!

Re: I like being a "darkwad"

There were approximately 48 scheduled burns on open playa this year. Many of them were small structures and did not have crowds around them to serve as a buffer for peds or bikes. I worked perimeter several times, and nothing out there is scarier to me than a really fast unlit bike flying thru a per...

Re: Exodus 2013 - How was it?

4 of us got up at 4 AM Tuesday morning, packed up two tents, and were headed out by 4:45 AM. Hit pavement at 5:15 AM. It would have been faster as the roads were the smoothest we have ever experienced, but the LEOs were out catching "speeders", so we kept it under 10 MPH.

Espressocamp is nearly always fired up around 7 AM early in the week; it typically gets a little later by end of the week, though not a lot. Straight shots only, no foo foo. We will be at about 4:15 and A. Stop on by!

Re: We have a Virgin Birthday Girl but need a party on Aug.

And one of the reasons we love virgins is the wonder in their eyes as they tell the stories of their experiences. So the best birthday gift you give could be recording your friend's experiences. I SO second this. My Bday is last week of August, so this will be my 10th Bday on playa. I so much look ...

Do not bother to bring food, since the neighboring camps won't notice when you show up and help yourself at mealtime.

Re: RV Costs

Simple rule of supply and demand, the closer the pickup point to BRC, and the closer to the time to the event the rental is arranged, the more it is going to cost. My husband and I live near Porkland, OR, and rent from there for way less than you listed. We also book by Feb. to lock in early season ...

I am driving to BRC from the Pacific NW. I've got a sweet but old RV I bought for $25 from Craigslist, and will be hauling all of our camp infrastructure in it. The engine rebuild will be wrapped up about August 23rd, so I CANNOT drive on any hills. Which route is flat? Thinking maybe driving I-5 th...

Re: Driving from the Pacific Northwest to BRC? Free camping

For traveling from Gresham/Mt Hood, I highly recommend the Hwy 26/97, etc. route thru Lakeview and Cedar Pass. Not only can you stop for a nice soak at Summer Lake Hot Springs, it completely avoids Porkland, OR traffic.

Re: Maybe I just have a bad additude

You don't have a bad attitude. Not at all. It's a camping trip with art, fire and music. A few creature comforts are nice - if you can afford them and can organise them - but they are not essential. If you rocked up with a small tent, sleeping bag, water, a massive box of cliff bars, a slab of booz...

The fall started out pretty damp, but not much since. May get a chance to drive thru that area in a few weeks and check it out.
