Re: Any word on playa conditions for 2013?

  look at all the spectators Is that a game of tackle the man w/ the football? In all seriousness, I asked my girl if it rained, would she want to go run around naked. It's probably the only time we'd be in exhibitionist mode, but she did raise the obvious question: how do we clean up?

Re: How A Vegan Foodie Does Burning Man :)

Not at all. Though I'm technically just a "mostly vegan" foodie - I do eat eggs and honey. Just because we don't eat all the same things as you doesn't mean we don't appreciate quality ingredients & preparation. We possibly appreciate them a bit more, since the taste of "beef" or "pork" or "chicken...

Re: Keeping eggs on the playa

+1 for Egg Beaters. This is coming from someone who broke an egg in a gigantic cooler, unbeknownst to him until it was time to clean up. Nasty shit. I'm going beater or hard boiled all the way. Other easy proteins (and note, I don't eat meat other than fish) Cans of beans Amy's Chili (I love this sh...

Re: Robot Heart 2013?

Lee Burridge updated his FB page counting down days to BM, and stated he was doing his usual Friday night/Saturday sunrise love fest. I'll take that as confirmation for me. I still think they should advertise that if you parachute onto (or base jump from that power shovel onto) the bus, you get to D...

In case it gets cold, I have an almost neck to toe fur coat. That's gotta help.

Re: sleeping bag recommendations

Disclaimer: I'm warm natured. For my first year last year, I took an inflatable mattress which had no pump (and was therefore, never inflated), a felt sleeping bag, and a blanket I got at Target for like $40. I slept in pair of man panties or buck ass naked every night and was perfectly fine. Didn't...

Re: Give your virgin self ONE piece of advice...

Take a tub of Cetaphil cream (not the bullshit lotion you get out of a pump... the kind you dip your hand in) and some gloves (work gloves, or surgical -- multiple pairs). Lather up + gloves before bed each night.

Thanks. Still might come up w/ something but I gotta really put my thinking cap on now that we're down to the wire. I'm actually in the states ATM, so might order some lights and see if I can't get some inspiration.

Not sure what the size of it will be yet, but maybe some easy-to-find tacks will work.

coconut juice/milk/water, is a natural laxative. POOP LUBE! yet ANOTHER good reason to drink the stuff. man it takes two days after arriving on the playa for me to poop ! :) Word... staying hydrating makes the consistency of your dumps so much more conducive to the (often horrible) port-o-shitters....

Preferred method of attaching a momento to The Temple

Do simple tacks work here? Is that too tacky? (Pun intended). I assume they would become moop unless the temple burn hits some fantastical temperatures. Putty? Seems like that would melt long before the fire. I got a small something I want to hang this year. It will consist of some poster board and ...

Re: Will Call the bung hole of BM

Gate doesn't want you to leave your car to get your tickets after many, many instances in which someone left their car and could not find it. Cell reception is slim to none, and people get separated. Touche'. Haha. I didn't really think of that. :-/ I usually have to leave tickets for other mates t...

Well, I'm only taking a few rolls that are expired... they've been stored properly (I've been told) so I'm actually assuming these will hold up, but will of course test a roll or two once I get some bright bright sun... which isn't really possible during the rainy season. will definitely check into ...

Re: Rental Vans that can handle a bike rack?

I kinda let this thread die. The problem I've found w/ the big places is they usually don't rent anything w/ a spare on the back. I guess another option would be a roof rack, or something w /a ton of space in it. I know shit about cars though. I've looked around for straight up "vans" at the big pla...

Re: Rental Cars___CLeaning?

We cleaned our rental, paid the Turtle Wash folks $100 deluxe, took pictures of the (pristine) car prior to returning and STILL got dinged with a ~$250 fee. I tried to dispute with my credit card - and somebody from Visa Gold told me to take all my pictures, document everything etc. etc. and FAX it...

Re: Will Call the bung hole of BM

Dunno... I think Will Call was the thing that ran least smoothly in my experience. The car line was about 2 hours, and I was assured that was lightening fast based on years, so a hat tip there. Will Call took me about 90 minutes though. It did not look like it should take that long. It was explained...

Re: 35mm Film and you

That was extremely informative -- thanks. I will look into one of those cooler bag things you were talking about. I'm going to take a bunch of different kinds of film. A handful of reversal, a handful of color negative, and some expired stuff. The extreme ASA (50, and 3200) are kinda pricey so I'd l...

Re: 35mm Film and you

Last year, I brought my 7D with the pricey 17-55m lens attached. Dusty year. Zero damage. I like that lens... had to give it up when I went full frame. I took my 5d2 + 24-70L last year. I bagged it up, and it was fine. However, there is a 2-fold learning experience out of it for me. 1) Any camera w...

Re: 35mm Film and you

Nice tips, guys. Guess maybe I'm being a bit overly cautious. I'm very aware of the implications of getting dust in the actual camera. The most expensive film camera I'm taking is about $150 used... I'll probably take 2 others that are $50 and a range finder in the $50 range. If I get dust in them, ...

Re: 35mm Film and you

In the end, your shots will probably look good anyway, and whatever may happen you can always correct it if necessary. Hell, it may even capture a specific look you're aiming for. I actually just bought some well-expired film (from the 70's). Stuff that's way out of production. The problem is I got...

35mm Film and you

I took my digital camera last year, and got some decent pictures. I have an even better (more expensive) camera now but it is not weather-sealed which quite frankly, has me a little petrified. I will take it with, but am going to try to limit it's use. Film has also struck my fancy lately. The bonus...

I know exactly what you mean. I made a couple of knick knacks last year, and while they worked, they didn't work as long as I wanted them to. It was a learning experience. I wanted to up my game this year, but I think this project is going to be a no go. I really can't commit to any piece of clothin...

Re: Wearable LEDs: Flora (made to wear) versus not made to w

Yeah, I think I'm going to need some trial and error before I make a decision. I need to sort out 100% what pants their going on and go from there. Second choice will probably be how much power do I want to lug around. Then decide what LEDs/wire to go with. The easiest place for a battery pack seems...

I probably should have been more clear, but it wouldn't have mattered. I would love to have mounted the bikes anywhere, but it wasn't happening. 1: No Roof rack 2: Spoiler on the back thing 3: No trailer hitch. I asked about the trailer hitch and the lady gave me the stink eye and said, "it's in the...

Re: 2013 Ticket Mailing

Are we still able to switch tickets to Will Call if we so desire (or require, I should say), and if so, until when? Due to all kinds of things ranging from work to family emergencies I've been globe trotting this year. The Will Call experience has a LOT of room for improvement IMHO, but it might be ...
