Re: OK, who else is going to Afrikaburn?

What are your plans before and after the event with regards to transportation?

I'm trying to figure out how much time to add so I can book flights.

Re: Roller coasters in the past?

I stood by the Speedcult roller coaster. It made a lot of noise as if it was shaking apart. I did not ride. Many amusement rides that could be transported to BM are designed to be nomadic. They are shuttled from fair and festival to another and reassembled. They sit on boards and cement blocks to l...

Re: Roller coasters in the past?

Here is a project I call "Eggroll" that I'm working on as a way to challenge my non-spherical geodesic joinery I'm working on. This was planned for 2015 but I asked to pause it while I build a custom 5-axis CNC router to be able to make the dovetail joinery  http://i.imgur.com/8Iqh9KSh.jpg ...

Re: Anyone need a bartender for their camp??

Sextant features guest bartenders (guest DJ's are SO played out!) at Vünderbar, as long as you're not afraid of heights! Contact me through facebag too if you're interested in doing a shift. We will post a public signup spreadsheet a bit later, although we could start it as soon as now. Typically y...

Re: Where to get Rmax panels/boards?

Use Neodymium magnets to secure your door. They're strong and provide an easy ingress/egress without having a latch that may prove troublesome. Basically, few things are more annoying than forgetting to bring a nice latch system to your sweet yurt. Embed the magnets in the door and frame and you wil...

Re: Where to get Rmax panels/boards?

My local Home Despot always has them. Strange. We like to have fun with hexayurts. You will learn a lot from the process of building, transporting, erecting, living in, taking down, transporting, repairing, and finally storing a hexayurt. You may ultimately move in a different direction after a year...

OK, who else is going to Afrikaburn?

I randomly googled it today and was taken aback that it was the day of the general sale... ...so I bought a ticket... ...AND I"M GOING TO AFRIKABURN!!! So I should research flights and car rentals. Is anyone else going? We should talk. It looks like Sextant will have a small outpost in Tankwa Town! ...

Re: Pendants, Swag and Associated Stories

Someone on our team at Arborealis has one of those, he got it from a guy that I have met a few times. I even helped him and a bunch of other people lift a tesla-coil/spool-something-or-other-thing into the back of a box truck at NIMBY. He has a hat with loads of stickers on it, alas, his name elude...

The key is to convince the crowd that they're actually Burners, and that they've been given an opportunity to spend time with each other.

If you want one of these Titanium man pendant bottle openers, Sextant will be flame painting and gifting them in the fire arts area. We may set up inside DUSTFISH Village if we can sort out the fire issue. The process takes time and I'm going to take the booth down when the sun sets, so come early! ...

Re: Mobility Ambassador Trveor Mills runs the Sextant Zip-Li

Ultimately you get to choose your own narrative.

You can complain, and be part of the problem. The inflammation, if you will.

Or you can solve the problem.

My problem coming out of of my first Burn in 2012 had to do with a perceived lack of a scary Zip-Line.

Problem solved. For now.

Mobility Ambassador Trveor Mills runs the Sextant Zip-Line

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XumTCVFMLxw Sextant has wanted for some time to figure out how to get Mobility Camp down our Zip-Line. After we met Trevor Mills we knew it could be done. After several days of rigging a special chair and some interesting test runs, all under Trevor's expert guidance...

This is a new reason that I will add to the list of why I have several 275 gallon containers getting serviced for fresh and grey water throughout the event. Water is one of the primary resources that a civilization learns to control and manage. Grey water sludge MOOP is some of the nastiest stuff I'...

Hexayurts are fun :)

Sextant did this in 2013. Now we do individual AC units or Swamp Coolers at the individual-organized level (the ducting was a large volume to deal with logistically).
