.That's a Kodiak "cabin" tent. Most burners use the "flex-bow" type as theses are much more able to handle the winds.........FYI

This thread : viewtopic.php?f=277&t=80373 has a number of folks saying the "stock" tent pegs were fine on the playa. Also discusses shade options.

ZIGZAG, from what I've read , the lags don't work that well (compared to re-bar) for slipping the pvc over. They definitely work better for tie-downs though.ZigZag wrote:So If I decide next year to replace all the rebar for my monkey hut with 3/8 x 18" lag screws

So, after taping, packing,un-packing, erecting, tearing down and re-packing.....how does it look like the materials will hold up in the long run ?

And why is it you don't want to just extend the length/add an additional piece to the ribs ? This would require a different size tarp but would maintain the MH's "tensegrity".

Re: Anyone have feedback on a Kodiak 10x10 ft tent?
I've been in nylon tents in the wind and they were quite NOISY. Are the canvas tents much (any ?) quieter ? Also, regarding tying the poles to a T-post or staking them down.....does that ruin the "wind dynamics" of the tent being able to bounce/sway with the wind ?

LAG SCREWS and MONKEY HUTS...
Most monkey hut tutorials say to use 2' rebar pounded 1/2 way into the ground for the arch "footings/anchors". Has anyone tried using lag screws instead. Say, 1/2x18" drilled half way in ? Also, is there a better source for the lags than :the Fastenersuperstore dot com ? (1/2x18" $2 each +/-) ? Than...

Maybe consider a Redneck Roof Rack. Get 2 "pool noodles", run a 1" "cam strap" thru each noodle and the (slightly opened) windows.

I believe the inside is 6'1" for the 9x8 and the 10x10 and 10x14 are 6'6".

Re: How To Alter a Store Bought Poly-Vinyl Tarp
I admire your craftsmanship....but......wouldn't an easier way to be to just measure your store-bought tarp and then just cut the EMT to match it's size ? I'm SOOOOOO much better with a hacksaw then I am with a sewing machine !

PL_FL, almost all the threads I've read re: monkey huts came to the conclusion that X's and 90's were NOT needed. Nor was a spine usually used....just the ribs. A few did use a rope/cord for a make-shift spine though. Also, the great majority used the silver tarp. If you can't travel with full 10" l...

EMT Monkey Hut...?
Has anyone ever tried building a monkey hut with EMT rather than PVC ? I realize you'd need a conduit bender to pre-form the arches but I was wondering if the PVC's flexibility was a necessary ingredient for the huts ability to withstand high winds ??

Ice Maker and a Prius...?
I was thinking of using an ice maker to continually provide new ice for my ice chest. Looks like they can make up to 26 pounds/day. My Prius could easily handle the power needs. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this ? Opinions ?
