Re: Washoe Co. Sheriff takes family to Burning Man...

The locals around Black Rock tend to be split on their view of Burning Man depending on whether they are making money of it or not. Those who are not making money off the event see it as a big pain the ass, as would most of you if an event moved into your neighborhood for a week, clogged up traffic,...

Re: Generator to recharge deep cycle battery

100 amp hour battery is pretty small, I'm used to industrial/farm size batteries. Sorry about the "tender" comment. We use battery charger/tenders which I refer to as "tenders" when they are passively maintaining a battery while stationed, not being actively fast charged to be used in say a piece of...

Re: Cultural Appropriation and Burning Man

I live around a whole lot of Native Americans, some of my best friends are Native. Most of them don't give a flying fuck about "Cultural Appropriation" as long as it isn't done in a negative, insulting way. Donning Native head dress is paying homage to their culture, not "appropriating" it or degrad...

Re: Generator to recharge deep cycle battery

Get a battery tender, plug it to the battery, and everytime the genny goes on, it charges the battery. Then, use 12v LED lights off the battery. Don't use an inverter for lights, it is terribly inefficient to go from 120 AC out of the genny, to 12v DC at the battery, then back to AC for the lights. ...

Re: Mini Fridge - Keeping the fridge cool!

120 AC mini fridges work great for drinks. Don't use them for food unless you plan on keeping the generator running all the time or you have an inverter to run of batteries. Those mini fridges are not well insulated. Once they go off, they heat up fairly quick. Not good for food items. Cold drinks (...

Re: To fridge, or not to fridge?

Yes, use it. A propane fridge is one of the best things you can bring to the Playa. Saves trips to the ice station and reduces the amount of liquid you need to evaporate. We brought a small propane fridge from a house boat last year. Just set it out with a propane bottle and a car battery. Worked so...

Re: I just want to wear normal clothes

In my experience, everyone dresses up for the first few days, but as the Burn goes on, you start to see more and more "street clothes." For me, this occurs for two reasons. First off, I only have so many costumes to wear. Second, after a week in the dustm constantly adjusting and repairing costumes,...

Re: Electric MV Motor Question

For an electric motor, you might want to look at forklift motors. Lot's of power for cheap. Better yet, get the whole forklift and use all the components.

Re: Building an Art Car Golf Cart style

I too am working on a golf cart, a 3 wheeled, 1964 Jato Walker Executive with an 8 hp Kohler engine. It will not have a handicap permit. It is a cool looking cart as-is, kind of like a sleigh, my question is, can I leave some of that natural styling exposed or do I need to modify/cover all of it? I ...

Re: Directly driving 36v golf cart with 12v genny

I probably confused people with the 20 amp comment, that is based on AC, which won't be used for DC batteries. Watts are volts times amps, so 2000 watts / 110 v = 18.18 Amps. 20 was just a estimate. Never thought of the elevation thing, probably cause I live at a similar elevation and never notice a...

Re: Burning Man and environmental impact of travelling there

I personally do not care about my "environmental impact" at Burning Man. That being said, however, it is probably less for that week then it would be at home, running electricity, operating heavy equipment, and generally living life as normal. I would guess that the environmental impact from 70,000 ...

Re: Directly driving 36v golf cart with 12v genny

There is a cheap, simple solution. Your EU2000 will put out about 20 amps at 110v AC. Get (3) standard 12v battery chargers which put out 6 amps ea, for a total of 18 amps DC. Connect each charger across a 12v series of batteries. I'm guessing that cart has (6) 6v batteries, so you'll bridge two at ...
