I'm way more pissed off at their self-righteous attitude than anything else. After all, how could the principles of this festival POSSIBLY be more morally important than making money for the ACLU?

I have indeed supported the ACLU in many ways - I will think twice from hence forward.

ibDave is correct (again)......

Don't have an open alcohol container of any kind in your car or in the cab of an RV once you pass the greeter's station. Greeters will be gald to collect any empties you may have for recycling.

I think they charge the same thing to pump BOTH your black water and grey water tanks at the same time. Be sure to turn off your water pump so that when you flush, your precious fresh water isn't going down the hole.

Try going to the greeter schedule page and requesting shifts (if you haven't already). Here's the link: http://greeters.messopottage.com/
Granny is in charge of the schedule so I would send him another note after you request shifts.

It's commerce - just like the people who wanted to rent trailers and RV's that they set up for you on the playa. There are lots of camps that have camp chefs - the camps got to the point where they need and can afford a chef through their own "evolution". I know that commodification is hard to fight...

You are likely right, Mozy. It was the obvious misspelling of the word "corrupt" that piqued my interest initially but the stoned rambling is passe.

I think there is no way you will be able to keep dust out effectively. You can keep the dust out of your tent, but not that shade structure.

The one thing I fear in life is getting sick. If my house burns down, the insurance will replace it. We have had bags of chips explode coming from sea level over Donner Pass.

If you are coming from LA, you may want to come up 395 instead as the 80 is a NIGHTMARE as a result of a huge construction project.

greeter

Ozzie - it really depends on what time of day on which day you come in to the city in regard to how many people are around. Gifts to Gate and Greeter are not necessary and not "expected". (It gets really dry and dusty out there for 4 hour shifts though!)

I was amazed at the enormous number and size of bugs on the playa over the 4th....but then the playa was still pretty damp just under the surface. Was grossed out by the giant flying black ones that would catch another bug and devour it.

4th of juplaya, we camped on the playa - a deep, crackly hard surface not prone to dust. Pretty much all the playa is still a "wet" tan color, not powdery white. When first driving out on it from the 8-mile entrance, I could smell the dampness. People too near the edges (over by the dunes, I think) ...

Air in your tent = dust in your tent unless you have some kind of filter vent system. My favorite thing over mesh is a wool blanket held by clamps, then the rain fly.

Your car will be fine if you lock it up when you get there and don't open it up again until you leave. Bring an extra air filter and replace the old one after you get to Gerlach on the way out. You can cover seats and floors with old sheets and towels - they really help soak up the playa that will b...
