Re: Has there ever been a Catholic Mass on the playa?

As a "cultural Catholic" since both sides of my family are/I grew up in it/I am no longer Catholic and I'd consider myself spiritual/Buddhist/Yoga practices at this point...I think the answer to your question lies in what people already responded with an addition. to be a Catholic Mass , it HAS to o...

Re: Glass Bottle MOOP?

I'm bringing glass. I can/jar my own produce so I'm bringing canned cooked venison, tomato soup, green beans, peaches, tomatoes, salsa, pickled peppers, and jam to the playa. To reduce the MOOP effect if something DOES shatter en route, I'm going to put each jar inside of a Ziploc bag. Open jar, pou...

Re: How to keep several pies and cakes cool?

IMO and YMMV, I would go with baked goods that are made to withstand the conditions on the playa. Something simple that will hold up. I'm making a few batches of cookies as gifts for my camp and to gift to folks. They'll be oatmeal and peanut butter variations because I know it'll hold up to the tem...

Was thinking about this question over the weekend...if it is small, and you have the space, why not just store your deodorant in your cooler with your ice? My plan right now is to do that, in a Ziploc baggie.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day

Hahaha. Good point. I've heard the idea of "improving upon the camp" is what brings a lot of folks back! Savannah, thank you! I'll be sure to read those. My campmates, the Pretty Pickle Camp, use the EZUps over their tents so they have experience in actually securing them. Grateful for that. I shall...

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day

Kept panic-ing. Decided to just say fuck it and place my final order of crap online through Amazon, instead of searching the local stores. Got my shade structure (EZ UP), ear plugs, respirator dohickies, goggles, LEDs for the body, tent and bike, and an air pump for my air mattress. Whew. Next year,...

YAY Elliott and another bike borrower! I'm borrowing one of his amazing bikes, too, coming in from Michigan. I feel you on the "not prepared for hot weather" thing. I love the idea of a battery powered fan, mister, and absolutely SHADE structures. Shade and tenting it and keeping them DOWN to the pl...

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day

I feel like the cat that ate the canary. This week has been top notch. Tuesday, I set up my tent in my basement and sewed old 60's sheets over the mesh on the top, and sewed the bottom vent shut. YAY! Then, today, I crafted my first ever EL-wire experiment AND put my cargo/tool belt together. The El...

Re: Would it be weird to just use a random fire for cooking?

I was so scared of having a propane explosion on playa, because, last old coleman stove I used had a leak and a fire strip went from the stove to the can and LUCKILY we killed the stove in time. No more heart attacks. Bought this puppy. Yep, it has safety switches. Makes me a happy camper. Cheap, sm...

I'll post pictures when I put it together, but, I wanted to take a moment to thank Ratty and other folks on this thread, for the idea of buying small packs/zippered compartments and hooking them to a belt! I went to the thrift store and got 6 different oddly shaped, awesome little packs and a big wi...

A dome? A swamp cooler? Marine batteries and solar panels? Are you going to bring a church organ too? For a single person who is traveling across the country, and who doesn't drive, and who doesn't want to spend much money, you're bringing an extraordinary amount of stuff. Instead of a simple passe...

You nailed it re: putting BRC on a pedastal. So, take it down/off. Hold that "ideal" in your head as Fantasy Burning Man. It's cool, it's an idea, it's a perception. Now, move on with Real Burning Man and do what VC suggested and get to the physical concrete things. No expectations. Expect nothing; ...

As wonderful a thing as BM is, the reality is that it wouldn't be possible if those same people frolicking on the playa for a week didn't work hard for the rest of the year. Mutant vehicles and gifted grilled cheese don't come out of thin air. If you have a job/career that you care about, that's aw...

You've got 180 days until you need to leave (assuming you're spending the night in Reno on Saturday and driving in Sunday, though this isn't mandatory, just "nice") which gives you 25 project weekends left to figure out your tents, shade, food, water, transportation, wardrobe (including goggles/mas...
