Re: Bicycle help!

Heads-up for SF folks needing to transport a bike. (particularly burner express people) There is a bike decorating event tonight: https://www.facebook.com/events/659218744154052/ If you pre-pay using playa bike repair Bike Transport , you can leave your bike tonight. This means you have one less lar...

Re: First time burner

Hey, welcome. I also started prep fairly recently for my first burn. It can be overwhelming at first. It is something of a project to get ready and be ready. I've been focusing on and checking off the important stuff ticket, personal and stuff transport, shade, bike, supporting gear. Info on all of ...

Re: Shade Considerations for Solo Camping via Burner Express

Oh, I was completely snarking. ;) I saw one of your posts in another thread and figured it out. :) Wish I wasn't a noob, shoulda got here months ago. For anyone following the thread: it hasn't been very long but I haven't found someone to transport Galaxy Hut materials yet. As a result I'm gravitat...

Re: Hello, I'm new. (Solo camping my first Burning Man)

I dunno...best laid playa plans frequently go south...that's why we practice radical self-reliance. That area around 6:00 & G is a huge block of real estate and by Thursday 2,000+ people could be camping there with 500 tents, 300 RVs and 62.5 hexayurts...oh, and 150 shade structures...give or take....

Re: Shade Considerations for Solo Camping via Burner Express

here's what i'm going to use for shade: Found the idea here: https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=40542 i use collapsable poles so it packs very small. won't be good for sharing with neighbors tho. hope that helps! Thanks, Lo. This looks like a great alternative. Really, I need something f...

Re: Shade Considerations for Solo Camping via Burner Express

To follow-up for other virgins following this trail: 1. Here's the eplaya share resources forum . 2. Burning Man has an active web thing that helps you find people to offer ride shares or hauling. The landing page is not obvious that you can query for just haul (mentions only rideshare), but you can...

Re: Shade Considerations for Solo Camping via Burner Express

I say go with the Galaxy Hut. It sounds like it will be a great way for you to meet your neighbors, gift some shade, and it sounds like the option you're most excited about. We are building one for the first time this year, and it only took us about an hour to put everything together. As far as tra...

Shade Considerations for Solo Camping via Burner Express

Hey y'all, This is my first Burning Man. I'm coming in on Burner Express and am planning to do the entire week solo camp. My intent is near the area set aside for BE riders around 6 and g. I am making good progress with collecting gear, and feel confident about food and water plans. Here's my intro ...

Re: Hello, I'm new. (Solo camping my first Burning Man)

Hey! I spontaneously booked a ticket 2 days ago and will be quitting my job and flying over from London solo! Already I know it's the best decision! I'm also looking at the burner express, do you know how it works with lugging all your stuff (mainly the water).. do they make a Wal-Mart stop along t...

Re: Hello, I'm new. (Solo camping my first Burning Man)

Sweet bike! 1938, how marvelous. Make sure you lock it up when you park, either the wheel to the frame (usually enough) or to something solid (less common, but sometimes available). Bike lights are good, too. If you use a distinctive color or pattern of light, it'll be easier to find it in the doze...

Re: Hello, I'm new. (Solo camping my first Burning Man)

Thanks for all the replies and tips. I''ve decided to do the entire burn, arriving late Sunday via Burner Express. I want to see the build up. My plan is to camp around 6 and g in the section for bus folk. Seems like a good spot for the wandering. Is that too close to the action? This weekend I focu...

:D Thanks for all the welcomes and invites. I am still working on timeline related stuff for prep. But I will also start keeping a list of meetups and things to do once I'm there. Look forward to meeting you all! :D

Hello, I'm new. (Solo camping my first Burning Man)

Hello everyone! I'm from Portland, Oregon but relocated to the bay area this past year. I wanted to attend last year and had ticket in hand but my life wasn't cooperating. I couldn't make the time and energy to do even basic preparation. That's changing this year. I'm planning to solo camp my first ...
