Re: Medical air evacuations

Burning man is amazing but counting on medical airlift to attend is a whole other level. We want octogenarians but is there a reasonable cutoff for general wellness in participation at this event?

As noted canvas is good until it gets wet. It cakes playa instantly from a cooler or glass spill in a bad way. If it rains you might as well cancel the man burn it is over.

Ok I was wondering because they look a lot like the Kelty poles. It looks like a few different competitive aluminum alloy poles exist now. I’ve used kelty exclusively in the past. Please post a follow up on how they held up.

Re: Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

I did, wonder camp did an in-field weld of the chain stays at the bottom bracket. It is a decent weld too. Not perfect but part of the reason the frame separated was because I was riding it through unbelievable friction not knowing I needed to or how to overhaul the BB. I actually learned a lot at e...

Re: Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

Yes, although I didn't have any problems with mine from 2014-2016, and I didn't even service the BB between any of the events. Maybe it was just too long without working on it for last year.

Re: Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

Was it really dusty last year? I thought it was the heat but maybe it was both. There were just a ton of messed up bikes, but maybe it was confirmation bias based on what I had. You could sort of anectodally hear it, the screeching bikes pedaled down the street, hours away from complete failure. Oka...

Here's another question for you, do you think Mobil grease 28 is reasonable for use with general bb repair? I have a lot of this left over from a motor build and would be nice to have it for the dab these jobs require.

Re: Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

I've only seen them for cheap in the ebay listing linked to here: https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=286&t=87721 ( this specifically ). They're like $1.30 each at that price. I grabbed a pack for myself because my bearings went to shit last year (destroyed the cage, but was still able to...

Re: Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

I would be happy with a solid bulk bearing ring provider too. I agree that in most cases the entire set doesn't need to be handled. Retail, that's still something like $7-8 a pair. Hoping to find something cheaper.

Its true. I worked on a project for a certain major art car and we needed a trench. It was like when they call in napalm during Tropic Thunder. Some guys show up and we have a trench right on esplanade in under 30 mins it was crazy. I was like, "How? I don't even let a drip of toothpaste touch the g...

Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

I have gotten really good at overhauling bottom brackets on standard cruisers. I'm looking to both bring kits to gift people and perform the overhaul while I'm out there to the many grinding bicycles in need. Is anyone aware of a good supplier for these kits? Retail they are about $15. I suspect I c...

Re: cooling your tent or van

Easy thing to overlook as the bucket cooler is opposite - takes outside air in. So are our car AC units that pull air into the cab unless you explicitly put it in recirculate. Right, I also thought of the freestanding portable ac units and I believe those also pull air in from outside. Anyway, not ...

Re: cooling your tent or van

This may sound crazy, but I'm considering a 5k BTU window AC sewn directly into a tent this year. While these things have air filters, I'm pretty sure they are not sufficient for out there. I am thinking about duct taping a furnace filter to the back of the unit as a way to offer additional filterin...

Seeking Bicycle Transport to/from Portland, offering Bicycle Repair / Setup help
