Re: HexaYurts

Any word if the Hunter XCI boards are a sufficient replacement for the Rmax boards? The source I found in dallas has them for $21.12 a sheet. This looks to be the option I will be going with if so. If not the other place had 1.5" RMAX boards for $25, but that eats up more room. When I checked on my ...

Re: 2015 Map and Street Names

Is the orange pentagram the outside border of the festival, or does this mainly show the layout of the city and deep playa goes further out? What are the actual widths or acres of the city if that info is easily available? Based on the scale of an 11 x 17 print I have, the inner circle at roughly 49...

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..

I came across some expired fold flat surgical grade N95 dust masks that were being tossed out and am now set for gifting dust masks whenever needed at the burn or if there is an ebola outbreak. Also, I used most of the money I got back from the Wallyworld Savings catcher app this year to get a 30 ga...

Re: Swamp Cooler Airflow through a Hexayurt

Could a 15 gallon bucket work in place of the unicooler for a hexayurt? I was originally planning on the 5-gallon swamp cooler, but it seems easier to increase size that way and I have one sitting around. I am not sure if I would use the endless breeze or a computer fan for airflow yet. Any word on ...

My lag screws were dropped off at my house yesterday from UPS, but were not there when I got home. I contacted UPS and filed a report on it to the FWPD also. I suspect my shady cousin has stolen them. I let him stay at my house for a few weeks when he had nowhere to go last month, then my wallet wen...

Got a costco carport over the weekend since a new shipment was in stock when I went by. My lag bolts should arrive today and I got a couple of heavy duty 6 foot tables out of my storage room over the weekend. Going to severely clamp down on expenses this next month if possible, but I will still be l...

I saw the 1/2" and 3/4" sandwiched together mentioned a few times as working okay if 1" isn't easily available from people in forums. Will have to see if I can find a link later, I know it was post burn. Last I was told from dfw burners was that the 1" panels were $27 somewhere out in Dallas. I don'...

Re: Conflict between school and Burning Man

I waited until I was done with school before attempting to go to the playa. I finished my bachelors last fall and got my tickets this spring. It was always something I wanted to be a part of, but the commitment is tough since I need 2 weeks off and have been taking senior level classes the past few ...

Re: HexaYurts

After spending a day out in Death Valley this weekend, it didn't take much to convince me that a hexayurt was the way to go. 95 degrees out in the desert is hot enough. I lucked out on my cargo van rental since its about $750 for 2 weeks. It sounds like I should be able to fit a hexayurt inside. The...

I am still on the fence on the hexayurt since the 3400 mile round trip in a rental van is daunting. I want to avoid anything that could happen mentioned in this thread below. I need to call the rental agencies to see if their vans have roof racks and what vehicles I could wind up with. The Kodiak te...

Re: Biking into the dust. General Bike info for the Playa.

Noted. I bought a $30 bmx bike for sxsw after having my bike stolen from the stairs below me when I was on the porch in Austin the previous year. BMX bikes don't seem preferred as the main transport, so that bike is mostly ruled out. I was thinking about bringing my flatland bike so I could do rando...

Biking into the dust. General Bike info for the Playa.

I was looking through the threads we have and there is a lot of info regarding bikes on the playa, but it seemed like there wasn't a place for general bike discussions for information. As a first time burner, I am still debating what bike to bring and what all I will need to do to it to prepare for ...

The USB connector can be purchased by itself for around $3 if you already have El Wire. I ordered 2 of them. Now I just have to wait a month for it to arrive.

Re: Best way to protect DSRL camera - Renting?

I am still deciding on what option to use myself. You could order the dicapac and just test it out to see how it handles and then return it if doesn't suit your needs. When looking at a cheaper dslr, the biggest issue is battery life for me. My 60D can take 1000 photos on one charge. That would be s...

I have been ordering most of my El Wire from amazon shipped from China. So far it looks like blue and green wire is the best colors from what I have. I will second the Glastonbury approach. I went in 2010 and they have completely eliminated scalpers with the picture printed on the ticket approach. The tickets are more like currency than they are tickets. Lots of safeguards in place to prevent scalpers. This year 135000 tickets for Glastonbury sol...

I went ahead and got some of the 5/8" mule tape since it was $45 for 1000 feet. The 3/4" x 500 feet was my original plan, but I figure extra length will be worthwhile for gifting if anyone needs any and I can always double up if needed. http://www.ebay.com/itm/151641608635 Would 5/8" be too small fo...

One thing I was looking at mentioned above was the Ryobi 4 piece set which is now $50 off at $130 which is a great deal for basic tools. Just for clarification, would the mule tape work for all tie downs needed then? (hexayurt, carport, tarps, any other shade structures)

I will probably go ahead and buy the roll mentioned above. I plan on getting a box of the 3/8" x 14" lag bolts shortly also.

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..

I already had an idea of making a hexayurt that could fit inside of a van by cutting up the panels into 4 x 2 sections, but it got shot down pretty hard (page 39 in the hexayurt thread). If I had to chop it up, I would think maybe doing 8 x 2 sections for a stretch hexayurt. I need to see what could...
