Didn't someone write on Eplaya, that the Department of Mutant Vehicles is only offering permits to mutated vehicles? Sounded like it wasn't just a matter of aesthetics, but whether the vehicle had been seriously altered.

While there are no guarantees, Judge says he hasn't heard of pile ups at Midnight on Sunday. That might be because if folks jam the main road getting into the event causing a traffic jam that big time tickets from Neveda Highway Patrol might happen. Its been alluded to in the past. Yep! We were thr...

Oh, and I don't really see a reason to move the event at this time, unless something comes about and forces it to move. Depends on how you feel about cops ticketing people for indecency (peeing on the playa), taking down people's artwork because they think it's obscene and there are kids at the eve...

Wouldn't it be hysterical if Becca were Wildone? Just sayin'. Oh, thanks for harshin' my mellow there, Stormy. The problem is, you may be right. But I'm puttin' my $2 on someone else... Sorry, I'm just being a little stinker. Haven't given much thought to who Becca is, just thought the situational ...

They've scheduled BM and the RNC for the same weekend

I've heard that some Burners are not going to BM, but instead will be protesting outside the Republican National Convention. While I admire this, I don't think that I could practically get across the country right now and I've made commitments to people at BM. I also wonder what impact it will have....

Oh that does sound like heaven. Don't know if we'll have time to stop over for a night to break up our long trek back. *sigh* So, umm, accomplished: -Did a shakedown of two different airmattresses that have leaks, so had to buy yet another. -Packed non-perishable snacks. -Tested out tent and shade s...

I know that I'm not getting in until after midnight. I imagine cars lined up to get in at that time. How many cars I have no idea. I'm asking when a good time to arrive is? If I plan on getting to BRC at 12:01 as you say do I expect to drive on through. Or is the road going to be a 5 mile parking l...

Location, Location, Location

Happy with current location, local law enforcement and BLM? [OK, the durn poll feature is not working right now. But I'd rather see a discussion than a poll.] Pyramid Lake Paiute land or Esmeralda County have been suggested as possible locations. Know of any others? Pros and cons?

Thin road tires will not cut it, don't expect the playa to be hardpack. Try to find a cheap mountain bike with at least 2"(wide) tires. The tires don't have to be super knobby, you should even be fine with slicks as long as they are wide enough. 2000 was dusty and powdery and no one that I know had...

I honestly don't think it's up to any of you folks to decided what behaivior is suitable for the playa. I bet every one of you did something stupid your first time. And I bet most of you continue to be stupid if this is how you really feel. You have elistist attitudes. Huh? This is exactly the kind...

ok, so the astroturf i have is actually indoor/outdoor carpeting. i think i purchased it at costco, and it's soft and all- but when i ruffle the fibers it seems to shed a few. i should leave it a home, right? it's got a natural rubber backing with olefin fibers. Paint the altoid tins creatively and hand them out to smokers to use as pocket ashtrays or to others for whatever. At this late date, you'd have to buy a case and empty them out or try to hook up on Craigslist or something. You can also buy plain tins through a craft supplier. Can't remember the pr...

[quote="Badger] Experience suggests that a good number of people looking to volunteer so close to the event so with an ulterior motive - namely getting 'something' for 'volunteering' which is pretty much frowned upon if not outright derided and sneered at. Here's one of my experiences: someone volu...

For gifts people usually appreciate booze. If they've been at the event since the Saturday before and you arrive much later, you'll be a rockstar if you bring popsicles, ice, unmelted chocolate, fresh strawberries, sushi, etc. Also having a good mister can make you popular, too. That being said, the...

You might be better off buying a used bike at a garage sale. As long as a bike has inflated tires and pedals-- you're set. Brakes aren't even all that important if you're going 5 miles per hour.

For Contact Wearers

I can't recommend daily wear lenses enough. Cleaning lenses on the playa can be challenging. If you can't afford to do daily lenses on a regular basis, ask your optiction for a 5 - 7 day sample pack.
