Re: Batch Cooking

I've done both over the years, no issues (though I personally prefer not to freeze if I can avoid it). Your mileage may vary, but for us custom-making each bag was kind of a pain, especially as we found that most single serving stuff easily fits in a pint bag. I'm sure some food doesn't hold up wel...

Re: Batch Cooking

Look for anything that bills itself as foodsaver compatible, they should all be food grade and BPA free (that's been what I've found). We have both sizes of rolls, but lately we've been preferring the pre-made bags with a zipper. They generally come in pint, quart, and gallon sizes. I like having t...

Re: what's with people looking for a camp

Well, with 25,000 tickets going to theme camps I can see why it's shifting in that direction. I heard that up to 50% of this year's tickets went to out of US buyers. I have no idea if this is true, but it seems likely, due to the huge amount of people posting looking for camps. It's happening in al...

Me? Other than burgers, I don't think I freeze any of it. It gets refrigerated. I usually do all my pre-cooking and sealing in the 4 days before I leave for the playa, am out there for 2ish weeks (between pre-gate setup work and post-event cleanup) and have never had an issue with vac-sealed food g...

Re: Eplaya Meet & Greet 2016

It's kind of a shame The Tuna Guys aren't on the Eplaya. Do they go to BM anymore? I thought I heard something about one of them dying? Or killed in an accident? Not sure what the cause, but pretty sure I read about one of them dying and missing the burn. Rumor or not so rumor has it that they're a...

What follows is the story of ONE meal, prepared for sixty planned guests, and wonderful randos who dropped in - the total served was likely around 100. A Wedding Feast in the desert! I hope it answers the question of "what worked" from a different perspective. You should know I am usually...

Not sure it's a real image, but someone just posted a OMG check out without the entertainment tax added. Not sure how that got missed (if it's not a shopped image). Lots of gnashing of teeth, but the reality is - there were far more people (Like WAY WAY WAY) trying to get tickets today than there we...

Re: Eplaya Meet & Greet 2016

I mostly lurk on eplaya these days. The FB group keeps me quite busy. I would like to swing by and get some hugs from my favorite eplayans this year. I will bring some Fireball or snacks, not quite sure what yet. Planning on arriving on playa Tuesday, and hopefully not during a dust storm like last ...

Here is a picture of Bob and the love of his life, his daughter Artemis, on the playa in 2010. As far I as know the last year he was on the playa for Burning Man was 2011. He camped with d'nile that year and a couple years prior. Love the playa home companion idea, Doc. It'll be on the top of my lis...

Kids' Tickets Kids and families have been part of Burning Man since 1986 on Baker Beach. Kids 12 and under still get in for free with their ticketed parents or guardians. For the first time this year, kids 12 years old and younger will need their own special no-cost kids ticket . If you’re bringing...

We camp at 5:15 and H-J-I or so. We haven't had anything disappear, but we lock up all the valuables all the time. As people have mentioned, they lock up everything tight on burn night. My friend that brings a solar panel has a chain on it to his van. If someone really wanted it, they could use bolt...

Re: What's the single best thing you've worn on the playa?

ooooh. tough question. I would have to go with my dusty trusty grey faux fur coat. It's light enough to not overheat me on warm nights, but warm enough to keep me toasty when needed (and a layer is added underneath). It doubles as a blanket over me at center camp, or to lay directly on the playa to ...

I have pulled tent stakes and rebar from other camps around us that I have come upon. This year a campmate ...

Re: I need a big sturdy dust proof tent for a costume botiqu

Dust proof! I had to laugh! Maybe you should consider a hexayurt with canvas or tarp floor? Use one of the models that is 6 foot for standing and lots of battery powered lights. Just about the only structure I've seen that comes anywhere near "dust proof." But lets face it, dust proof only...

I forgot some critical items this year. One being the step-ladder. I can't put up my shade, nor take it down without one. My wonderful campmates let me borrow one and left it for me since they bugged out early after the Friday dust up. Also forgotten this year was my pink silk robe. Phooey. I live i...

I saw very few LEO's cruising by camp (5:15 and I), very few. In years past I have felt like they were stalking my camp, but this year the camp drive-bys were not obtrusive. Friday night my sweetie and I rode over to the Ashram around 8 and were turned away by a late opening due to the dust storm ea...

My first year was 2009 and I remember getting stuck in a white out in deep playa and having to just sit down and pray I didn't get hit by a car or bike stupid enough to be driving around out there (like I was). Sunday was another very dusty day. The man burn was delayed because of wind. Then we had ...

I have found that you can pick up what you need in Reno. It might not be exactly the band or color you wanted, but they stock a lot of what you will need.

Being flexible will be the name of the game. Some stores will allow you to preorder and then pick up.
