Re: Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car

Thanks for the explanations! Right now the group is split between plan E and plan F. I currently prefer plan E because I love the idea of having to coordinate four people to turn. Sure, we'd be weaving all over the place, but it would be fun. I also like the idea of tighter turns and no distinction ...

Re: Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car

Thank you for breaking it down to the simplest level for me, folks. You should see the rubber-band and index card mock-ups I've been playing with. It now sounds like it's time for plan E (for Elliot): http://i.imgur.com/9jtWVXP.png Plan E has the benefit of simplicity: the axles being driven are dir...

Re: Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car

Ideas seem to be converging. Elliot, your idea is blissfully simple, and the illustrations really help this non-mechanic understand. Thank you! We like the "tank style" steering - i.e., two sets of pumps and drive-trains, turn by pumping one set faster. More fun for four drivers, much craz...

Re: Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car

I LOVE the teeter-totter idea and I think we could totally swing it. With careful planning we could maybe even make it convertible: when the arms get tired, switched to seated, and vice versa. One of the co-conspirators was actually thinking of a similar idea when I read your response, BBadger. Tiah...

Thanks for the responses and enthusiasm! Catman: while it would ride smoother and be awesome to actually have a rail in place, that is beyond the scope of this project. Honestly, looking at LeChat's past threads, this project may beyond the scope of this project! We're certainly behind on time. Capt...

Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car

So. My friends have invited me to work on a "little" project for the burn: http://www.spcrr.org/images/handcar.jpg The hand car will be entirely human-powered, with a newly-fabricated frame but scrapped out parts, such as suspension. I would love to hear your collective thoughts on this pr...

Center Camp comes to mind: https://burningman.org/event/volunteeri ... camp-cafe/
They have space inside for flat art, or you could volunteer to paint one of the huge panels around the outside. Your experience painting 5x9 would be useful in that regard.

I found some scraps and threw one together. ... Hmm... that is essentially what I was picturing from MFOB's description. I could totally put together (and transport) something like that. I paid $0.25 at a thrift shop for a witch hat before my first burn, thinking the wide, stiff brim might be useful. It worked exceptionally well and is now my signature item. Unexpectedly, the witch hat gets me tons of comments while biking around, including an honorary certificate from Hogwarts for ...
