Aerial Playa Fishbowl ( ATTN: Kite Flyers)

It's late and I just had a cool idea for a fun orginized activity that is family friendly and open to anyone.

I am a fan of flying kites and I noticed during my first year plenty of kite flyers taking advantage of the playa winds. I propose that anyone who is bringing a kite to BM this year should buy/make a fish kite of any kind. We all meet and create a fisbowl in the sky for however long people want to enjoy their kite or when a dust storm hits

Suggestions? Interested?

Sounds like a plan Rev. Come on by DOTA (dept of Tethered Aviation) and say hello. If there is a kite camp on the playa, we're it. Thursday is the official 4:20 kite flying festival, but if the wind is blowing, you're likely to find a display of kites near camp. Should anyone be in need of tethered aerodynes, come see us. We'll have plenty to share.

Sweet, that sounds awesome! I'll definately join you guys for the 4:20 flying on Thursday. Any sugestions on a good type of kite for the playa?

If you can't wait till the burn (who can?) here are a few sources I can recommend.

The winds can vary greatly on the playa. If you can only have two kites (only two?), look for a design that can handle high winds, such as a Parafoil, and a high aspect single line Delta for late afternoon thermals.

I wanted to build a kite to fly at BM and I was doing some research when I found this forum...it is really a great idea...I'll be there on Thursday at 4:20 with my fish kite. It's my first time at BM...is it easy to find this kite flying festival on Thursday? Do you have a playa address?

No address, yet...soon....but you can just look up from the esplanade and see those gorgeous kites at 4:20 on Thursday - Thank you DOTA!!!

Sorry, I haven't been able to check back here lately, so busy getting ready, as I'm sure most of you are.

So to the point!

The fishbowl kite flying will be happening on Wednesday, the 29th @ 3pm.
We (well at least myself

. . .) will be meeting at The Temple. Then move accordingly to stay out of the way of structures/people ect. Looking forward to seeing other fish in the sky * fingers crossed* This event has also been listed in the playa events calander, just in time for the printed edition... (just in case you forget about it when you get there).
