Did you register an Art Car that you aren't building now?

Hum....

I'm extremely disappointed to read we I won't be able to execute a bribe on the playa this year...

Isn't having a poignant sense for excuting bribery considered one of the truest art forms of our day? Of course one should accomplish it with humility and a pinch pizzazz... or sure you could be a sloopy ass and do it with no-class, but that’s not fun.

Isn't this the way you're suppose to shake the booty around systems and what about great cities... were they not constructed by pushing a Franklin onto the skin of some caring soul? So how are those that use this art form going to achieve greatness at Black Rawk City? Hum...
Holy fucking shit... Is this what happens to us when we think Green?

OMG… have I learned nothing… all these years…

Hi tundratommy,

I am a DMV Hottie and can confirm what dragonfly Jafe said...

Unless you are driving the Mutant Vehicle to BRC as your sole form of transportation to and from the event, you will be required to park it in the impound lot when you arrive. You can then come to the DMV during regular hours (we'll be located at 6:30 & Esplanade and open 10am-9pm) and request that we inspect it.

IF the shift-lead is sympathetic to your story AND there are Hotties available to do the inspection... there is a (very remote) chance that we will take a look at it. I have heard of this happening (only once) in the past. Keep in mind that this is a big burden on our all-volunteer crew. We will be processing nearly 700 vehicles during the week and we'll all be working very hard to take care of the people who planned ahead and completed their applications in advance. Show up prepared, bring a photo and completed copy of the DMV's Mutant Vehicle application with you and BE NICE to the Hotties!

All that said, your vehicle must be truly spectacular; It needs to embrace the Green-Man theme, be participatory, be visually stunning and most importantly IT MUST BE SAFE. If it is not one of the most interesting vehicles to ever grace the Playa then the answer will be "NO" and it will stay in the impound until you head home.

There is NO CHANCE that a Hottie will accept a bribe from you or anybody else! this is something that we have all discussed and agreed to during our training. On the other hand, Black Rock City is a community that is based upon unconditional gifting. So, if you would like to give a gift to the Hottie that helps you out you can feel free to do so... though I would recommend waiting until after you have actually gotten the MV licensed so that there is no chance that your gift be misconstrued as a bribe.

If you're feeling lucky then feel free to bring your mutant vehicle to the gate. I'd put your odds at about 1-in-800.

See you in Black Rock City!
Cheers,
-Sparky

While bribing a Hottie, especilally before issuance of a DMV placard, is considered not only foolish but also in bad form...

I would like to state for the record that our camp *is* accepting bribes this year.

We won't tell you what (if anything) you will get for your bribe. But all bribes will be gratefully accepted in the spirit of grafting, er, gifting...

We CAN guarantee that there is a likelyhood you will receive, in exchange for your bribe, nothing. For an extra added bribe we will wrap your nothing in an imaginary box, and present it with all pomp and circumstance due such a valued gift.

Please submit all bribes (we accept Bullion, Krugerrands, Pandas, or Gold Roubles) to Ministry of Graft and Illicit Kanban, Dep't 4-Q2, Terminal City Station, BRC.

Thank you for your mandatory support.

So what kind of art car are you wanting to bring?
What size?
What does it do?
What does it look like?

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

I followed the rules and have successfully built and registered several mutant vehicles in the past... and I've been told to park one too. (An un-pre-registered motorized bike.) "Bribes" were never needed, but I DO recommend "donations", "gifts", etc., for the DMV people just because they seem to be some of the busiest people on the playa, with one of the toughest jobs. They have to deal with people who brought a heavy object hundreds of miles and tell them "no" when they or the vehicle haven't met the criteria that they so clearly published. That probably doesn't always go smoothly.

We really need the DMV. Before they tightened things up, the playa was overrun with ATVs with fur taped to them... golf carts with tinfoil... cars with spray can grafitti...

I wonder if the two universal "currencies" of Vodka or Tequila would be acceptable for small bribes?

i'd highly recommend leaving the art car at home if its not registered.

I had one of the most stressful experiences in 2005 dealing with DMV, with stuff that WAS submitted before the deadline, just in limbo on approval. It ended up taking 4 days before it was finally approved, but it was 4 days of sitting at the DMV office with bribes, hopes and prayers. Wasted half my burn trying to get it taken care of.
