THE ALL NEW NON-PATRIOTIC 2008 ART THEME

Soooo, what do YOU think it should be?
Here's mine thus far:
BURNING MAN 2008: LOvE & hATe

Ok, here's another one. C'mon people! Don't make me do all the work. Throw sumpin' out there... here instead of in the political forum of the eplaya.
Burning Man 2008: Entropy
Rooted from the Greek word metatropi and the Greek symbol S,
among its many meanings "entropy" is another way of saying transformation. Some idears as to this here theme are as follows: "I am Optimus Prime...", chrysalis, a new utopian society in America (no wait, that's Black Rock City!).

Burning Man 2008: EMOTIONS, energy in motion
(street names like: awe, bewilderment, compassion, delight, empathy, fear, glee, humility, impatience, joy, kindness and lust)
Burning Man 2008: Galactic Evolution
(street names: alien, borg, celestial, diaspora, evolve, far-away, galaxy, holotropic, ion, juxtaposition, kinetic and light-year

I'm gettin' to like the "Galactic Evolution" mo' betta. I feel the "Emotion" theme- although always fun to toy with -is too close to what we've already experienced with "Psyche". Of course, my first theme idear was emotionally based. It's way cool that you're thinking right down to the BRC street names.

Existentialism-
A philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one’s acts.
All art will be considered *Theme* art, because really, how is it not?
The Man will actually be on a low burn platform...where you can hug him.
& Jean Paul Sartre Quotes everywhere:
Everything has been figured out, except how to live
Man can will nothing unless he has first understood that he must count on no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth.

I like everything posted except "Love & Hate". I think that's even more dangerous than "Heaven and Hell".

here's my fave:
Burning Man 2008: The Insect World
(suggested as a joke by one of our campmates: "what do you want? insects? flowers?")

hmmm...
METAMORPHOSIS, might be an interesting theme
or
SPECTRUM (could be all sorts of amazing art in prismatic colors, black and white, multi-cultural, space, dopplar-effects, etc)
or SYNESTHESIA (which is one of my favorite experiences)
-- (a nice little definition from wiki: "from the Greek "with," and "sensation"'—is a neurologically based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. In one common form of synesthesia, known as grapheme → color synesthesia, letters or numbers are perceived as inherently colored, while in ordinal linguistic personification, numbers, days of the week and months of the year evoke personalities.
Hearing colors, tasting sounds, feeling smells... fascinating in and of itself

Wow! This is getting goooood!!
I like the touchy feely theme esp. since I'm feeling extra sensory at the moment.
Keep 'em comin' burners!

Oh, and I'd most likely hump The Man's leg if he was close enough to hug.
Love the low burn platform idea. Eventually life on the playa will come full circle, insects - spectrum rays - growing pains and all and The Man will have to come back down to Earth like the rest of us.
Hey! That might be a good theme someday-
Burning Man _ _ _ _ ...: Down to Earth
Singularity

it would be interesting to explore the concepts of singularity and what the future may bring.
i like the metamorphosis idea too
the chosen theme seems so uninspired, it really makes me question the burning man organization's lack of inspiration. I go to BM to forget about borders and nationality.. I skipped on this year, and was planning to go this year.. but I'm seriously losing faith in the organization.

I'll re-post this again here:
"The Opiate of the Masses"
Strrets: Agnosticism, Buddhism, Catholicism or Christianity, Dharma, Evangelism, Fanaticism, Gnosticism, Hermetic, Islam, Judaism, you get the idea...
We could also integrate a drug with a religion, whichever fits:
Acid Agnostics, Benzadrine Buddhists, Crack Christians, Dope Dharma, "E" Evangelists, Hash Hermetics, well, you get it too...
This is a great theme paying homage to Karl Marx and the wonderful religions and pharmaceuticals we've invented. How can you go wrong: anti-capitalism, religious irreverence and drug reverence?

With a theme like this, I may very well get arrested for burning an American flag.

Hey, that's the theme of my camp. Still working on the details, though.

I'm still curious what the street names for the American Dream will be...?
Anarchy, Bi partisan, Chaos, Democracy, Elitism, Gold, Entropy, France, Hype, Independence, Justin Timberlake, K-Mart, Loot, Money, Nippon, Obesity, Plutocracy, etc.?
(Just some suggestions.

This blog is comin' along real nice!
I can relate with all of you. Drugs and religion is a cool idear. Too bad we explored mainly the religion part at Beyond Belief. Hrm... perhaps this:
BURNING MAN: ..... Out of Body Experience
I too am feeling jipped by the 2008 theme. I really wanted to go this year, but you know... broke.
If the BMORG does insist upon the theme then we should go all out and get ourselves arrested. If there is a street named "Anarchy" then I'll be campin' there. I do not believe in nationalism. It's just another way to perpetuate bigotry and global isolationism. I don't believe in borders. I believe in perpetuating peace and embracing each other as a world tribe. If you think me not a patriot then GOOD! Shoot me and be done with it!!!
Or maybe this... BURNING MAN:.... Zoo

"The Opiate of the Masses"
quote]
Yeah but how about just encompassing all the religions under "religion" then you have room for TV, Drugs, Food, Sex or a bunch of other things that can be Opiates of the Masses.
But then wouldn't we be giving in to our hedonism on some level? Just like the American Dream theme, even a critique of it would reinscribe and reinforce.

VERY good suggestion! I like the way you think.
If we want to keep the "world" theme going with 2008--after all, the Man is going to stand on a pedestal decorated with world flags--why don't we call it "
World Dream?"

So, go by yourself and don't interact with anyone. Don't buy ice, bring your own stuff, deal with your own messes.
