So, you say you are going to boycott BM cuz the theme is lame, wrong, bad, evil, etc? [yes, it is for many reasons]

Well, from your friends and connections you have made at past burns; we'll miss you.

BMOrg, they will sell your ticket to a clueless tourist or drunken fratboy at the gate for increased $$$'s

The rest of us... we'll be creating our own theme(s) & having the best possible burn we can.

or maybe... you just don't want to go, & being mad at the Hat/BMOrg gives you the out you need. [& that's cool too.]

I'm going to boycott Jungo Road next year, it was nicer to me last year and a lot less expensive. A WHOLE LOT LE$$ EXPEN$IVE.

(Sidebar: 25 minutes into driving on Jungo outside of Winnemucca my girlfriend speaks up and says this is it? This is the road that you bitch about all fucking year long? This ain't shit. I rarely tell her to shut up but this time I politely tell her she really needs to shut up. But the road heard her, 10 minutes later, boom! The truck shudders, and the trailer starts dragging the ground. I get out and look....not only did I blow the tire, I mangled the rim so bad that I had to hammer it just to get to the bolts. I never did find the tire and the 14 inch rim now measured 6 1/2 inches. But it got worse...the pop-up trailer's frame got bent, and in the end when we got it back to Missouri post event the trailer ended up beyond beyond repair. My point: Jungo Road is a motherfucking son of a fucking bitch. Travel at your own risk!)

Jungo - Sulfur road was a breeze, we drove a ford taurus, F550, and a kenworth tractor on it with no problems. I could do 75 in the fords, and 60 in the KW the entire way. Did you leave from the north west side of Winny right by the Volley ball field? I thought Jungo was in the best condition that I have seen in years. There are other oads that intersect Jungo from the south like from Lovelock, or Ryepatch, were you on one of those?

First off let me post one of my favorite lines: Almost everytime I compromise, I get screwed.

I can say that Jungo was in pretty good shape this year. The real problem was my last minute preparation and using borrowed equipment. Long trips have a way of highlighting shortcomings in gear and that's what this came down to. My X-Terra is an offroad edition, it can handle Jungo without fuss. The pain in the ass was the Coleman pop-up camper we borrowed from my girlfriend's brother as my old Jungo-proof trailer wasn't big enough for two people. The damn thing had problems galore. The trailer hitch pin broke allowing the trailer to come off the ball, before I could get everything stopped the trailer rammed the back of the X-Terra and the trailer ball ended up being rammed through the front wall of the camper. Also both safety chains failed...and yes I had them connected properly, the chain was not suitable to be used as safety chain. I've already posted about the Jungo flat, then there was the canvas that ripped during the windstorm, and the little problem of the thing swaying back and forth like a palm tree in a hurricane if you got above 70 mph. In short it was the road trip from hell.

Lessons learned: Never assume anything about equipment that you don't own or know intimately. I will NEVER, EVER and I do mean ever own or use a pop-up camper again. I will run the strongest safety chains or cables I can get away with. Grade 8 bolts are mandatory. And that's just the top of the list, my girlfriend and I sat down post-event and did a full evaluation of what worked, what didn't. Needless to say I'm making a lot of changes before 2008. A LOT of changes.

Final score: Kinetic: 9, Jungo Road: 3.

And yes I left Winnemucca by the volley ball courts at the North end of the river bridge. For all the troubles though, I really love that road. The views are breathtaking in spots, and if you really want to feel like you're on an epic trip, that road will do the trick.

Althugh I think the theme is unappealing, it could be good because it forces a sense of responsibility as citizens of whatever that place is... Amerika. Maybe we can deconstruct is in the collective unconscious

Sorry for the hassle, Almost all trailer problems can be traced back to 2 Problems.

Too short a wheelbase, and that gives you the side to side swinging, and tows like shit. The other is inferior grade parts, in the way of bearings, wheels and tires, and chains, hitches,

I hope your XTera didnt get beat up too bad. We had a pop up for years and had to upgrade it to solve the problems. as a kid my dada was a fanatic about caomping, so our little pop up got the tongue extended at the local welders by 6 feet. (cost 38 dollars in 1984)

and the biggest tires and bearings that would fit under it. After that it towed straight as an arrow, and no more tire problems. Check around you might be surprised how easy it is to upgrade these two parts.

I'm hitting the playa in June!

The Playa is nice in June. Just don't camp next to the lake.. it can move with the wind, and you can end up in the middle of it while sleeping. Here's what it looks like in June...

Oh.. and it's completely alive. No biting insects, but everything else that can fly or jump is alive out there. Might even get lucky and see a deer.. like I did.

Yeah, if it weren't so darned far from where I live, I'd be tempted to visit during the non-Burning Man time, too. Just to see how different it is.

I dont think the theme is that bad.Its all about freedom.If you dont like the theme just make your own.Theirs no reason to boycott the playa.Thats just unneeded bad vibes.Peace
