Allow Burning Man Participants To Vote For Theme

If Burning Man is truly a participant sponsored, participant created event then why not allow its participants to vote for and choose the event art theme each year? The Burning Man Project can suggest a few theme choices and then burners can vote for their favorite. Give people who attend Burning Man the freedom to create the theme so they are participating and creating the event experience in the most absolute sense.

Are you going to have a Petition Camp? That would go well with the 2008 theme!

Oh yes, that would indeed.
Collect signatures all week and present the petitions on burn night.

The Prince doth know well that the peasantry cannot be trusted with such decisions.

Just so I understand ....
You are not happy with this theme.
You would like the theme to be chosen democratically.
Isn't that part of the American Dream??
Do you really want BM to act like our government???
Be careful what you wish for!!!

Democracy works fine.
Limit selections to a dozen themes and then have a vote.
I suggest:
The Apocolypse
New Beginnings
Debauchery
Bohemia
OONTZ!
man there are so many you can come up with. any others?

It has been pointed out to me that BM is not a democracy, but rather a do-ocracy.
There are no decisions to be voted on, somebody just grabs the bull by the horns and decides to get-er-done!
The theme was picked, if you like it then have fun with it, if you don't like it then ignore it and do your own thing.
If you really want to vote on it, I think the theme should be one of the following:
Hanging chads
Over count
Too close to call
Double vote
Butterfly ballot
Absenntee ballot
Voter fraud
In the end is it really worth arguing over!

In America wouldn't they be tossed in the trash out back of the polling locations and fakes substituted or votes just plain ommited?
Oh wait I'm thinking of where I live now in FLORIDA.. In Nevada it would be ALOT different in BRC.
They get BURNED in BRC!

I don't think there should be a vote. I'm just hoping for a theme that is not extremely pop culture and politically correct for 09. I fear this trend will continue.

Does the theme really matter to you, at all?
How much does the theme really impact your week?
I think most people do the same things, wear the same stuff, drive the same art cars, and none of it has anything to do with the theme.
I think the theme is a pet project for someone, and overall it has a very small effect on the whole event.
I say, fuck the theme, do what you want, as that's what you will do anyway.

I read something that I thought may have been an early slip of the theme. I thought it was going to be along the lines of "Tall". IMO that would have been great. A really tall man to burn and I think it could have inspired a lot of people to literally build up ^ next year. Neato. Oh well.
DEMOCRACY!

Wow, that petition has 146 signatures....each one representing people who seem to have lost the ability to think for themselves, that have to have their art and creative vision spoonfed to them like a 2 month old, and that have totally failed to understand how BRC truly works.
There are things that cry out for change and that warrant this kind of effort...Darfur, Tibet, putting someone with a functional brain in the oval office to clean up 8 years of Shrub's mess...heck, even figuring out BRAC's distribution of grant money or pushing for changes after reading EMBER reports but no, we've got to waste our time trying to change a theme that at the end of the day won't be changed and at best should be considered as a suggestion, and nothing more.
Today's word for the day boys and girls: Clueless. It's a damn shame they can't figure it out.

No, Bitter Dan, there is no theme. BM has Santas and Easter Bunnies and sometimes even Aztec Pyrimids. But the theme is a myth, something comfortable to help Li'l Larry get to sleep at night. You're a full grown snark and don't need those cozy lies.
