Would wind chimes piss YOU off? Oops, wrong forum. Can move?

My dad makes them. Beautiful, deep tones. I was thinking of dangling them from every possible space in my camp if I attend this year.

Since I don't have the resources to do a Mortville this year, I figure wind chimes would be fun.

Albeit obnoxious. My boyfriend thinks people will want to punch me in the face.

Would a hundred wind chimes strung up in a camp piss YOU off?
I don't want to alienate everyone around me.

Personally, I can sleep through anything.

deep long resonating tones could be a nice breakup of the techno soup heard virtually everywhere. I like it.

I personally think it would be great. I have a 12' X 12' pergola with almost a hundred wind chimes hanging from the rafters - tiny tinkling ones, bells, bamboo, deep chimes, bars, ceramic butterflies...

When a breeze picks up it is like an orchestra :D

Let me see....it’s not some drum camp playing all nigh

Or....that disco that played the same song over and over until 8:00 AM

Or...that art car that just had to keep making laps of our street playing Johnny Fucking Cash all night long....

It’s not the lesbians in our camp having such loud sex for hours on end that someone from the camp next to us yells, “JUST CUM ALREADY!!!!â€

Don't be surprised if you return to camp and find your lovely wind chimes have spontaneously morphed into some kind of (quieter) art project.

Very considerate to ask. Can you tune the chimes to play "Holiday in Cambodia"?

I think it is a beautiful idea. I know I could sleep through it at burningman. By the time I lay my head down the only thing that wakes me up is people bouncing on me.

I would worry about people taking off with them though.

a great idea, and I wish everyone were as thoughtful as you. There's not much wind at night or in the morning for that matter, but with all the cacophony going on at BM, this would be a really welcome sound

I don't sleep well, ever, so I expect to not sleep, be crabby as hell, and hope the wonderful joy of the experience keeps me from being the one who kills the Johnny Cash car. Please feel free, I'll just take more sleepy pills.

The tinny, clangy ones would be irritating, but if you have those great, deep-toned ones like you were sayin', I'd be happy if you were my neighbor.
Won't you please, oh won't you please... please won't you be... my neighbor!

I expected a lot more harshing on the wind chimes.

I guess it couldn't be worse than all night accordian music. Someone a couple camps over played that for hours on end one night last burn. HOrrible, horrible accordian music. I wanted to scream. But then I just went to sleep and woke up 10 hours later to no more accordian music.

There has got to be one more accordion out there,...hasn't there?

NO, LOL, guess I could piss someone off with that post! This was recorded accordian music though. Live accordian music might be pretty good. from what I can remember, it was this old timey sounding scratchy recording. There were other instruments in the background I"m pretty sure. It was just miserable. It just went on and on, maybe even just the same couple songs repeated over and over.

That does it! Two of my favorite things have been insulted.

I am making a special Johnny Cash/Accordion mix just for all my new BM friends.

I wonder if the lamplighters could be convinced to hang a few deep tone chimes on the path to the man...

I remember a few years back, 2002 or 2003, there was a big, long whiteout mid week. There were a couple art pieces that had bells on one and a horn on another. It was fun trying to navigate in the complete white just by the two sound sources and memory of where we thought they were.

I love the idea of deep tone chimes.

Does Dad want to help me build a big Windchime? Sort of...in the shape of a Giant Oven Mitt?

Understand that the wind never stops.
Ever.

I think chimes might work well on art cars that need to alert people to their presence.
They aren't all loud and obnoxious.
Some are silent and mysterious.

All the jokers with bullhorns, and the 24/7 pounding techno beats, and you think windchimes are gonna piss people off? I think it's a great idea, you should definitely do it!

Nick, that looks like a nice little backyard garden you got going on there!

When building the Booby Domes last year, i had all intentions of saving the emt scraps to drill holes and make wind chimes.....

seeing as were making the boobies BIGGER for 08' I guess I can try to put that on my to do list again....hahaha
but only the larger ones...

I wonder if you spot weld dots on them if it would increase their tonel value?

I have big cathedral chimes out front, but I tie them up when it gets truly windy. They have that lovely deep tone, but yeah, it keeps me awake. Don't wanna wear the earplugs in my own home!

The chimes out back go all the time, we've had to replace the string on them once. My neighbor loves them, even late at night.

If you can deal with them, go for it. I'd have a way to secure them if the winds get bad, so they don't tangle or get ruined.

I actually don't mind accordian or Johnny Cash. JC is a bit of a joke for me. I was at a friend's house for a get together right when the movie came out on DVD. As he started singing Ring of Fire, we started to smell it. FIRE! She had a candle burning in the front room that caught a hanging fake plant basket on fire. It spread to half the room in seconds, but due to the fast action of everyone the fire was put out and only one person had small burns on the hand. Maybe he should have used an oven mitt.

I love wind chimes! The sounds they make are awesome and very calming. I can pass out with the chime sounds, no problem. If they (or any other noises) become a problem for me, then I'll just resort to using my trusty ear plugs to help me get some shut eye. I don't plan on sleeping all that much, but when I do, wind chimes and hot lesbian sex are both welcome sounds!

Hey, what about gongs? Those make awesome sounds too!

Transgirl, you live in Hawaii and I'm sure your place has tons of wind chimes. I bet it's the greatest place to relax on the island! Can I come over? Haha...

An assload of windchimes close to my tent would probably piss me off. Not enough to actually confront you about it, but enough that I'd stew about it and talk about you behind you back if I found someone else who agreed with me.

So if you're worried about getting the evil eye from pussies like me, leave them at home :)

Honestly though, it could go either way. They could either be nice and soothing, or really freaking annoying if the wind is gusty. Bring them, but as AntiM says have a way to tie them off easily and make sure others in your camp know to do it if you're away. The problem is there usually isn't a gentle, steady wind. Much of the time it's all or nothing.

Where ever there's wind, there's room for wind chimes! Though, the fact that we're in the flat ass desert which is subject to high intensity winds, sometimes in excess of 100mph, not to mention sand storms, I'm not so sure that those chimes will stay together. They'll probably fly off and bonk someone up side their head. And no...a migraine is not a fun thing to have out there on the hot playa.

Still, I think they'd sound cool (as long as I'm not camped right next to them).
