Oh, Larry will never change the themes. We're dealing with his ego, and he's surrounded by a structure that keeps its interests best served by pampering said ego. Think of Larry as the clueless High School Principal who doesn't know what's really going on or how much the kids (and teachers) laugh at him behind his back when he reveals the pep rally themes. You've already wasted too many braincells on the theme this year. Go on and have your fun.

I think only original americans such as Paiute, Cree, Navajo and so on should call themselves americans, and all the newcomers should have to refer to themselves as New americans, or something else entirely.

I would have no problem being referred to as "The Other White Meat".

A few of them may sound foreign, but they're all registered Americans. I did a Wiki check to avoid the bb Nazis... Now you'll have to save your scorn to mock me for choosing semi-modern authors, two of whom make comics.

Hi
**waves frantically**
I'll probably be here a lot this summer. There's a lot of down time at work right now, so everyone here spends most of their day playing on the internet. My ticket arrived today, so I thought I'd celebrate by coming to the ePlaya.

I got one more, closer to home.

My grandfather who volunteered for the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. Lost at sea in 1937, I believe, his ship was bombed before they even reached Spain.

Haven't made it to SF to see the new memorial yet, but the pix online are beautiful.

"I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents."

He might as well have added "...In fact, I AM Iron Man."

33 years doing damage? I guess, like many of us, he opened his mouth too late to do any good.

Yeah, I thought about that too. Maybe it took him that long to get into a high enough eschelon or to gain enough experience that he learned what was really going on, or it finally just got to him.

"Butler was known for his outspoken lectures against war profiteering and what he viewed as nascent fascism in the United States. During the 1930s, he gave many such speeches to pacifist groups. Between 1935 and 1937, he served as a spokesman for the American League Against War and Fascism "

I think maybe he only opened his mouth too late to do any good if people forget what he said. Seems like now would be a good time to dust off his words and see who dares swiftboat the message. (Wise people wouldn't badmouth Smedley Butler in a bar room filled with Marines.)

In fact, that gives me an idea. I'm going to make a signboard of the Butler's quote and just put it next to the road in front of our camp. Semper Fi, General.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but... "war and fascism"? Sometimes it takes one to stop the other. But not the other way around, of course.

Still a fan of Teddy. :)
