Acaplaya is in our 5th year this burn and we are ramping up to get the group together! So far as we know, we are the only vocal jazz group out on the playa, and we have found a great love for singing for burners on stages, impromptu art cars, (haven't done the magic carpet yet, but maybe this year...) and wherever we wind up. We sing and we have an awesome time...
We are in need of a few more singers, female voices especially. We are looking for:
1. Prior singing experience a must, preferably in the vocal jazz/a cappella genre. Must be able to sing inner harmonies either by reading charts and/or learning via midi files.
2. PREFERABLY live in the bay area (we rehearse and memorize before we get out there) or close enough to get here for 2-3 pre-playa rehearsals
3. Willing to have and be at set performance times once we are out there. meaning someone who can be somewhere at a certain time, on the playa.
4. ready for some serious gift giving via the sound of our voices!
We are in need of a good, solid vocal percussionist as well. this person could potentially sing ONLY VP if they didn't read or sing harmonies. Or both...
Acaplaya is a total miracle every single year we do this. From crazy last-minute serendipitous meetings on the playa to intimate camp kitchen serenades, the work we do out there is so special. It would be great also if you considered camping together with the group. Not mandatory, but it makes getting together SO much easier. Plus, we've accumulated enough playa crap over the years that it's become a very nice camp! fire pit, dome tent, don't have a generator yet, but something ALWAYS works out...
