Seven foot long Yellow Submarine needs to go to Burning Man
Seven foot long Yellow Submarine needs to go to Burning Man
I built a Yellow Submarine out of plaster for my son's elementary school variety show act. I would love to have the sub make it to the playa (and burn there!) if someone would take it. I am not going to make it to the event this year.
You will need to tranport it from my house. I can store it up until you leave for the event. I do not want to have it back once you are done with it.
Details on its construction:

Final photos:

In an ideal world, you would take photos of the sub on the playa and share them with me. That would make me very happy. But in the absence of photos, I would feel glad just knowing it made some burners happy.

Re: Seven foot long Yellow Submarine needs to go to Burning
Did I mention that three adults can be inside it and carry it around? There are PVC pipe "handles" that run the length of the sub on the inside.
Any takers? C'mon! It really needs to go! :)

"Needs" to, huh.
Um. Does it "need" to to the detriment of someone's 27 costume changes? Or water supply? or furry bicycles? Or MV? or propane tanks? or art project?
The brutal truth is that people often don't have a lot of extra room to pack something that isn't vital to them. Plus, with gas prices the way they are, who wants to lug 7 feet of heavy plaster? It can rot in your yard, or you can cut it up and put it piece by piece into your garbage can for the next year, but don't expect us to be your trash haulers.

Jennifer - it obviously means something to you. I say try to make it to the playa and bring it with you. And then your burning of it will be within the true spirit. Not the same if we do that for you. Not the same for us, as well.
Hope to see you there.

Of course I was being light-hearted. Of COURSE It doesn't NEED to go out there.. not like water or shelter. But I DO consider it an art project, one that I spent several weeks creating. Although it was not created especially for Burning Man, I spent a lot of time thinking how wonderful it would be to take it there.
My first trip to the Playa was in 1997. I've been involved in art on the playa as well as a theme camp. I know what it takes to haul large objects to the desert. If you are not up for it, fine. But someone else might be!
There have been a few times I have gone to Burning Man at the last minute, without any tangible thing to contribute. So many people go with some sparkly outfit and count that as "participating". Some of those people wish they could have brought something more to contribute to the experience.
If someone would like to take the sub, great. I think it would be quite magical. But if not, then I am grown up enough to dispose of it myself. No need to lecture me!

Don't you dare trash it!
I've grown fond of your little yellow sub, and I will see it burn this year if I have to buy it a ticket and a cab ride from Reno! Give me a couple days to shop it around to folks, someone with extra cargo space will want to play with it as much as I do!

Rod - Well, that's another story; the important thing here is you gotta ask me how I'm gonna get down to the playa.
Joe - Uh, how you gonna get down to the playa?
Rod - Funny you should ask, I've got a submarine now.
Joe - Oh wow, how'd you get a submarine?
Rod - Oh my parents drove it up here from Oakland.
Joe - You're kidding!
Rod - I must be, Oakland is dirt and sand all the way to BRC, okay, the important thing now, is that you ask me what kind of submarine I have.
Joe - Uh, what kinda submarine do ya' got?
Rod - I've got a BITCHIN SUBMARINE!

This is way cool. The Yellow Submarine really really needs a
one-way trip to the playa.
Sending good karma your way (from MD).
Looking at Details on its construction:
http://blog.jenniferwilde.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
We see mostly cardboard, newspaper,& masking tape.
with a top layer of plaster cloth thinly soaked in plaster.
It could burn just fine iwith the PVC pipe removed from inside.
(maybe braced with several 2 x 4's or 2 x 3's at the last minute)
