My old man and I are both making our virgin trek to the burn this year, and the old coot just has to have the RV- not that I'm complaining.. ! It's not a very big one. We are both community minded and would love to join a camp- and maybe offer a wind block to boot? Any ideas on how best to approach such a situation? I'd hate to be stuck on the outskirts and not feel a part of the community.
We're amusing, occasionally theatric, resourceful, laid-back, full of more BS than you can imagine (well, the old man takes the cake) and READY TO PARTY! We'll be traveling from Mendocino County to the burn, so if any locals see this hit us up! -Peace

virgin parking
Hello! Send me an email and I'll fill you in on our plans. If the timing is right, perhaps it would make sense for us to camp together.... I'm joining up with my CA family.

If you drive in during daylight hours it should be fairly easy to find a likely spot to park...if you're community minded, then just look for a spot that's occupied by others that might have room for you. Trust me, wherever you end up w/b the perfect spot.
In 2005 we showed up early Thurs morning...way late. We drove around and eventually found a spot on the outer ring, barely squeezed our 36' RV into a very narrow slot. Just so happened that we parked amidst several independent camps that all turned out to be great people...we all mingled and had a blast! In the meantime, you have lots of time to search the camps listed here and maybe find one that sounds good to you.

RVs don't actually take up that much extra room compared to a car and a couple of tents. It's just harder to drive them into the spot. Use the same tactics anyone else without a pre-arranged spot would - head to an area that looks like it has some open room and is not a registered theme camp and park by the side of the road. Get out, wander around, and talk to people. When you see some that look friendly ask them if they wouldn't mind if you parked there. Technically they can't say no because reserving space is not allowed unless you're a registered theme camp, but telling someone "screw you, I'm parking here anyway" is not a great way to start the week. Best to move on.
If you arrive in the middle of the night just find an empty spot, sleep the rest of the night and start hunting in the morning.

Awesome- I had a feeling it wouldn't be to much of an issue, but what does this virgin know? I've never been so ready to experience something- though I am trying to keep a level head about it and not have too many expectations, it is hard not to get excited! I appreciate the advice and look forward to our adventure!
Can I join?
From SF - looking for RV mates - have the camp thing already - let me know if you are still looking? :P
