We were told we'd get out placement Aug 1st, so I'd expect sometime next week, or early the week after.

Post by makia » Fri Jul 25, 2008 2:52 pm

Hi,

I am interested in getting placement for my theme camp, The Pain Killers. Is it to late for placement?
Does anyone know?

Yes, it is definitely too late. Deadline was the end of may, if I'm not mistaken.

Have you guys done a theme camp before?

Yes...at regional burns...

We will have small camp and easy to set up. I was just more worried about placement because I arrive late weds night.
But, if it is open, then I will just get posted on the board once we arrive and know our location.
Thanks for replying to my post. Perhaps we might meet on the playa....

Looking for a camp to call home

Post by BrookeandDanny » Sun Jul 27, 2008 9:14 pm

Two fun loving Sacramento natives looking for a cool camp to belong to. Yes, I know, they are all cool. Does anyone have room and would be nearby for our meeting(s)? Let us know. :D

How do they announce placement? Is there a list on the burning man site?

They don't. If you are a registered theme camp you get notified by email.

At some point it all gets leaked out into the wild.

...and then printed on pretty paper "What-Where-When" guides and handed out at the gate.
I vaguely remember a full listing of ThemeCamp locations (from the org or a release website?) beforehand.

It is hosted on the main BM site but the BORG does not publicize since some theme camps ask for confidential placement. Go figure but it is what it is.

Here is the link to last years list:

http://www.burningman.com/themecamps/placement07.html

When the new list is posted the link will be emailed to the registered theme camps. One of those will be leaked later on in the week and likely posted to Tribe.

I heard that The John Edwards Baby Mama Drama-Rama is one of the camps requesting anonymity.

A special Visit by The Rev. Jesse Jackson, as well as a Posthumous memorial to Strom Thurmond and Charles Kuralt will be part of the weeks events.

it must be true, i read it in the Black Rock Enquirer

Why this works better than there just showing up and not building a theme camp on some random corner is another one of those playa mysteries.

You can see the list for this year right now, just change the information in the link that seems "most right". I will say no more.

Portals are what they are calling those triangular entrances to plazas and at 4:30 and 7:30. Pretty good location if you ask me.
