I Actually Like the New Theme!

Although the prose about it is par.

Somethings to work with.

Wallace (I've forgotten his first name.) He actually discovered Evolution by Natural Selection independantly of Darwin. (Notice that no one independantly wrote the christian bible.) Also a spiritualist.

Gary Larson. I'd be pretty pleased to see a herd of holstein art cars. or something echoing this:
Image

Dinosaurs. And or pleistocine mega-fauna. Trilobytes. Ah trilobytes. Just about the coolest extinct almost horseshoe crab animal there was.

They already have a double helix in the man base, but those are neat.

Can't think of any more at right this moment. Too much Nina Hagen ear-worming me.

YAY New theme...

Evolution beats the shit out of Intelligent Design.

And that's true whether it is applied to life on this planet or to the Burning Man event itself.

And, for the curious:

It's most definitely a breath of fresh air after the last two years! I don't think it's the top, but it is definitely great starting point for some great art and ideas!

I like it too! I'm so relieved it isn't: World Domination. (Although, now that I think about, perhaps that's what they meant!)

You want to talk about world domination? You should listen to the conversations the 10 year olds have on the trampolines in Kidsville! If there is a plot for world domination, surely it will take place there!

I miss the ambiguity of The Floating World.

Floating World had a lot of fish--definitely a good thing. But I was that little bit put off by having a euphamism for protitution (as I understand the meaning of the Japenese) being the theme title. I'm just so damn sick of male defined visons of female sexuality littering the social landscape. YMMV

Maybe next year people in caveman outfits can push the Contraption when it breaks down.

I dig the Theme, as progression=evolution. My favorite theme was probably "The Floating World" (02'). My first year, but to see the boat art cars was s i c k :D Plus, I'm an astrological Cancer, so the idea of an ocean in the desert (Like SpongeBob) was great.

I like it too - it is perfect if you ask me

If you ask me it's perfect, consider this definition (yes, i looked in the Dictionary)

"a process of gradual, peaceful, progressive change or development, as in social or economic structure or institutions. "

Isnt this one of the things that BM is all about?

I just wonder who's going to have a social darwinism camp. That is so wrong, it's right.

I think this is the greatest theme since 2002. On a funnier note

The art will be amazing, I'm already excited thinking of ideas for artwork on the playa!!!!!!

I really liked the "psyche" theme... but this one has the potential to surpass it!

I kinda like "evolution"- it's pretty damn open for one of Larry's themes. You can go pretty much anywhere with it (evolution of self/ planet/ environment/ alcohol/ not caring about themes......)

For my steampunk brethren all I can say is that you have almost a year to evolve your facial hair.

after the American Dream i was braced for the worst... i heaved a massive sigh of relief with Evolution...

much to my pleasure, most people ignored the American Dream, reminding me that BRC is still BRC no matter what "theme" Larry picks.

Evolution should both stimulate fun responses *AND* be very easy to ignore...

I missed that year, but isn't that a very specific reference to Japanese Geisha culture.

I might make my art project about the Cambrian explosion if I don't go extinct next year.

Evolution does sound like a great idea that I can rock and roll with, but I ask you, YOU, what does "A Tangled Bank" mean. The birds in the bushes and various insects kind of sounds like my place (and those that have been here can vouch for that). We even got the worms! So my question is, as I contemplate a tangled bank and my head starts to throb.... whaaat? Charlie was so cool, but I never could read anything he wrote.. zoom over my head.. Perhaps what I am missing is the connection between the bee and the Pine tree. The Burner and the Desert. The food and the shit.. wait it's starting to make sense..

We were due for a good one. So far all of my ideas have to do with "enhanced natural selection."
