Flamethrower Shooting Gallery - You Too Can Burn The Man!

Postby matisse » Sat Feb 21, 2009 10:41 am

Last year (2008) the Flamethrower Shooting Gallery helped over 200 participants play with fire
in spectacular, hands-on fashion.

This year we want to enable even more people to make good on our motto and goal:

"You too can Burn The Man!", and "Doing dangerous things, safely."

We need to fill up most of the crew roles by the end of March, in order to commit to bringing the Shooting Gallery to the Playa this year.

The list of roles to be filled is up on the web at:

http://www.matisse.net/flamethrower/participate.html

There are about 80 slots still to be filled, and so we need around three dozen people to commit to about
two days each, or pretty close to that.

Some roles require serious training, some don't.

This year we plan to give the crew some nicely printed "tickets" which
can be given out to friends, etc. Each time we assemble a group of
shooters we will first pick people in the crowd who have these
tickets.

If you would like to help please join the Flamethrower Shooting Gallery group on Flickr
and/or send me email at:

Safety third! Did you see it last year? The flamethrowers are chained to the shooting table.

You fuckers are AWESOME!

I'm making my first mixed fuel thrower now. I'm basically doing what you did only cheaper.

Thanks for making my year last year.

Recruiting continues

So we're closing in on getting our crew together - we have about 115 work slots to fill, and currently have commitments for 48 of them.

So, if you or someone you know would like to help run the Flamethrower Shooting Gallery then please have a look at our Participation page and perhaps pass on the URL to others:

I would LOVE to get involved in this! I'm based in London where I am on the crew of a flame throwin' firetruck. We've also got a great little handheld that we can't quite figure out how to get through customs and on to the playa...
I've got experience working safely with LPG but not with liquid fuel, but I'm ready and willing to learn. I hope I can sign up for a few shifts!

Excellent!

Can you send me an email, and include your phone number, to flamethrower@matisse.net ? I'll get back to you to set a time to discuss details. If by any chance you use AOL Instant Messenger and a Mac then we can try audio chat as well. (I am in San Francisco.)

Assuming that it is not inherently illegal, maybe mail it in pieces?

We'll be doing crew training Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Anyone working range operations (Gate, Range Safety, etc.) needs to attend one of those session (unless they did last year) and we cover many safety procedures.

Have a look at our participation web page and let me know which roles you would be interested in, and how many shifts you can commit to - if you can specify dates that is best but for now we just need the number of shifts.

Hmmm, can't seem to insert an image. The system seems to keep inserting a space into the closing img tag.

The trick with flickr is right click on the properties, then cut and past the URL it shows there, THEN delete everything after the jpg abbreviation on the end.

Count me in as well. I'll make sure the gallery is amazing this year. I'm available a few days before & after the burn as well, to help build and/or tear down as necessary.

Let me know what I can do to help.
