Roller Derby at the Black Rock Roller Disco

Post by steffen razor » Fri May 29, 2009 11:44 am

The Black Rock City Roller Girls are having their 4th annual Derby in the Dust scrimmage this year! If you haven't seen the modern incarnation of flat track roller derby, you've gotta stop by and check out the scrimmage.

We are looking for skaters to join us again, so if you are planning on going and would like to skate with us, please visit our website or our yahoo group and join our forum. We've had girls show up without their equipment because they didn't know about the scrimmage and it sucks wearing playa dust encrusted rentals. So even if you don't play please pass the word along to anyone you know who plays roller derby and will be going. We ask that skaters be at least at scrimmage skill level. We're also looking for referees and announcers.

This scrimmage is seriously fun! There have been spankings on the track, fake fights with orange cones and pantsings. You get to play with girls from all over the US and Canada, we bring schwag to trade and usually get team tshirts. It's held at the Black Rock Roller Disco, the camp who brings a skating floor to the playa and hosts the roller disco all week long. It's usually right on Esplanade so it gets lots of foot traffic and the last 2 years the Billion Bunny March has stopped to watch. The day and time hasn't been confirmed, but the last 4 years it's been on Thursday at 7 pm.

Here's a video from last year, courtesy of the Skate Godfather, host of the Black Rock Roller Disco:

Thanks, and we'll see you on the playa!
