BRC Hardware - We Fix Crap

Post by marc17 » Tue Aug 18, 2009 8:48 pm

Black Rock Hardware Shoppe shall be on the playa again this year at 2:15 Center Camp. This is our 9th year since 1999 out on the playa fixing people's stuff. We bring people, tools, and some spare parts and wait for you all for break something or remember that what you need is sitting back at home on the kitchen counter. We have rope, spare nuts and bolts, screws, nails, hammers, safety wire, hand and power tools, and duck tape. We've repaired buses, theme camp generators, art cars, art project motors, art, boot heels, sandals, signs, jewelry, little red wagons, and even a few bikes. We've made goggles out of a cheap pair of sunglasses and duck tape in the middle of a dust storm. We've fixed flying carpets. We'll get your stuff working for the rest of the event if possible. It might not be pretty, but when you are in the middle of nowhere for a week, what do you want?*

Even if you don't have anything to fix, we can break stuff too, or you can just come by and say hello and sign our Book of Souls. We're open from Monday through Friday from the time we get up (usually a couple of hours before noon) and sun down. At night as we feel like it and have the open sign out are lit up. Other times for emergencies.**

A few Caveats:

Thursday is our holy day: NO ENGINE REBUILD THURSDAY! We do not rebuild engines on Thursday. For all other days, check for availability.

We do not have a welder. We might have a cutting torch for things, but there are usually enough welding camps out there that we don't have to bring one. We'll be taking a list of those sort of camps to send you to however and if you have one, come let us know.

We do not have tons of spare stuff.*** If your theme camp needs 350 2 1/4" wood screws with torque heads, you're out of luck. If your theme camp needs 350 screws of whatever type we can find, we can help you.

*And we do this all for cheap shitty beer, ice, or whatever you wish to gift us with.

**We determine what is an emergency. Fixing your art car the night of the burn so you can drive people around all night is probably an emergency. Fixing your car on burn night so you can leave for home first thing in the morning is not.

***To all you people who are going to be wondering why your bike doesn't work and has flat tires when you haven't done anything with it since last year, in fact just been in the back yard doing nothing until you picked it up and threw it in the truck to come to )'( this year, this is your clue to check it out now, or at least buy new tubes for your bike. We do bring bike tubes with us and some patch kits (while most of the bike camps won't because they think you're stupid and relish in your pain) but they are usually spoken for by Tuesday. After that, you are bartering us for our personal stock that means we risk having to walk for the rest of the event so we hold them dearly. Heed me now and check out your bike and make sure it works and you have spare parts.

You guys are awesome. Last year I got a nutcracker from you and it's the best nutcracker I have ever had. I use it nearly every day.

Thanks BRC Hardware. You rock!

Thanks to everybody!* We had a wonderful year. We were able to help a lot of people and make a lot of stuff work for the rest of the week. We fixed some generators and failed on a few others. We worked on a few art cars and lots of bikes.** We even were able to get some people off the playa when they wouldn't have been able to otherwise. Despite the drought of beer, it was one of our best years ever! The art was awesome! The burn of the man was great! The burn of the Temple moved us! The horrible music of center camp at the AM Monday Morn got us up and through the exodus quicker than ever before.

*All prior greetings are thanked and specific greetings were passed along to their appopriate members of camp.

**Even though we sent most of them to Bike Rock City for fixing because they were actually open this year. Thanks to them and we may have to make them our sister camp now that Tchkung's Tchkamp! and the Infernal Noise Bridage are no longer with us.
