Damn... I was hoping for some judicious use of the train horns and PA system on the bus to drive back the unwashed masses.
I think it is a glitch myself, or the Kool-aid was a little stronger than usual at BM headquarters Friday and someone fucked up big time.
I'm sure it is. Like I said, those were just my middle of the night onspiracy ramblings.

Damn, where were you earlier today to enlighten me to the basics of reading. Somehow "processed' turned into, "its ******* done, now you should panic" in my nogin. Guess the old brain has become a bit smaller and motivated by eating seeds and target crapping while flying over strangers.

This is not making sense. Where are the numbers? 550 registered theme camps, and only a small percentage posting here.

Are we the only ones not getting passes?

It seems to me there is a disconnect. Either we're the camps who have some how managed to piss off the powers that be, or there's a lot of this going around, and everyone is scared to speak up.

Something is rotten some where, because this really smells.

We simply can't downsize all of our early arrivals. We come from to far away, and have already booked our flights, while the land based krewe has to meet the others, the trucks have to be picked up on schedule, etc. etc.

Franklly, i'm starting to lose sleep over this, even though i've preached to myself that everything will work out in the end.

BTW, to the folks offering to help out others after they built their own camp, have you lost your minds? I don't know about you, but i'm frakkin' exhausted after building my own camp!

Last time i checked, we pay to play. I do shows all the time, and naturally we always come in early to set up, get ready, etc. Why would building BRC be any different?

Really, some sort of word would go a long way at this point.

I'm just sayin'. . .

Im offering to help others build while I will most likely be exausted because I couldn't imagine what would happen if I couldn't finish my project. Is it reasonable,...fuck no, but I'll still do it, just to make sure everyone else can have the same good time I will. And yea, I thnk your right, its definitely a little bit of madness.

I'm sure you will, and i'm sure you mean well. I do not mean to criticize your intent.

Really, this is simply not the point.

Even if every single camp sent people to help each other, it would be a cluster frak of epic proportions.

We are a well oiled machine. We've scaled our set up the way it is by learning that less is more. We often don't want, nor need help, we need each other because we've learned how to build our camp. It's part of the process, and as builders, it's what we have to offer our fair city.

Builders build, fluffers fluff, and we all get to hang out in the one place on earth where we more or less have something in common, though we all come from every walk of life.

All i want to know is: How the hell can we build our city, if our krewe is not let in? Where exactly are we supposed to go? How do i explain to the one noob on our team that he can't come now to help, he'll have to wait, somewhere, not sure where, since everyone's budget has been gone over, time off from work aquired, excuses made, logistics considered, tickets bought. Surely, in consideration of what must be one of the most massive human undertakings by an all volunteer orgainzation, some consideration should be given to us.

So thanks. People like you help us all, but your help, is simply not the issue.

The issue's are:

What are you not telling us.

Why are you treating the best of the best, the people that build the city, like this.

When do you plan to say something.

What exactly are we supposed to do now.

So, if you think about it, there's no need for you to exhaust yourself. This makes no sense at all. We're not trying to put one over on anyone. We're not going to the fair. We're building the fair!

Thanks for playing, spin again!

Just wish I wouldn't have gotten the "all the early entry barcodes have been sent" email. Did a good job of taking a mostly calm if overwhelmed builder to obsessively worried, following mad paranoid ramblings, don't know how Im going to build builder!

If we end up getting our passes and get the art up then I will be more than happy to help whoever needs help to get set up early. Im sure the rest of the team will help too.
So what did they say? Was there some sort of answer or not?

Well said points Smashy.... theoretically we might all have the cash to rent a large cargo truck to get all the stuff for a village together, we we do not have the bucks. Theoretically a very small number could build in a short time under adverse conditions and dangerous temperatures... I did it in the army, and it was our duty to risk our lives and health. This is rather different.

Paperboy-- well said.

So, if anyone has any news they can confirm, please let us know. But be sure it's hard info, not just what someone said to someone.

Unless we know otherwise, we have 7 of our 8 theme camps at this point, having to come in Monday with the flood, and would only have enough passes at this point to essentially occupy the territory and lay out a bare bones pre-set up operation.

Thanks!

Yea, and in the Armydaze, you were 18 years old, physically and mentally conditioned at boot camp in a southern state. Now, well, we are all older, have desk jobs, or out of work, not used to a lot of physical effort in hot dry conditions. Those that attempt to build out their camp in record time are likely to be candidates for the EMS medical team.. (unless there are machine guns shooting bullets over our heads, then we will get it done)

...despite PM's advice to continue with plan "A", we are having to assume plan "B" for logistical reasons. For instance, I was going to haul some stuff for another Boise camp, but it must be in before Monday - now they are having to locate another way to get it down at the next to last moment (but better than assuming plan "A" then having to locate someone days before departure). Lot's of collateral damage on this one so far...I hope we get word soon from the BORG on what's up.

Honestly, how hard would it be to come on here and say" don't worry folks, we will get you all your EA passes. There was a glitch in the system, please don't panic"

Something would be nice. Especially for those coming in from far away, like the Boise crew. This is not a great way to run an operation.

So..... I call

415-TOFLAME

and a guy answers and says "the number you have reached is no longer...oh wait..

no he says.. "The phone number you have called has been forwarded to a voice mail system. The voice mail box assigned to your phone call has it's message capacity reached, please call back at a time later"

'AT A TIME LATER"???? what kind of english is that? Would we english speaking people normally say "AT A LATER TIME" instead of time later, or later time... blow mind

And it might make me wonder why they are not clearing out the mailbox.

Just a heads up, I've spoken with my camp's placer, and there are definitely some persistent issues with getting the EA passes out. We have received zero passes so far, but per our placer, we were approved for all requested passes and the situation is being investigated.

So, the above statement about EA passes can be made by proxy/inference from communciation thus far, though I agree, it would be an efficient and calming communique if the placement team just posted that here.

I imagine the placers running around a hot crowded office, smoke billowing from some old IBM 386's, while they drink black coffee and chain-smoke cigarettes trying to get these PDF's out...

We also contacted our placer and were told that we got approved for 12 passes, to date we've only received 5. So hopefully we'll get the rest, and have a blast.

PLACEMENT-ANNOUNCEMENT #12, '09

-- EVENT ENTRY

-- TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES

-- MINORS AND BARS

-- BOUNCE SAFE! (TRAMPOLINES)

Greetings from Black Rock City -

The Placement flagging crew has assembled and has started to plant
thousands of survey flags to create the camp boundaries of our city.
It's hot, but not too hot. The breeze is gentle and the dust is low. There
has been a little bit of rain during set up, so pack wet weather gear if you want to be extra safe.

----------------------------------------------------

EVENT ENTRY

As in 2008, all registered theme camps must have checked in on playa
before Burning Man opens. We cannot hold your reserved space after the
gates open at 12:01 AM on Monday, August 31st. Additionally we ask that
Esplanade, Center Camp and Plazas are up and running on that Monday.

Your set up crews should have their early arrival passes from us by now.
(They are sent in batches less than the total all-at-once to avoid being
misidentified as a massive spammer).

Remember, it is your responsibility to have purchase the accompanying
ticket for early entry.

If you have questions, concerns or did not receive your Early Arrival Bar Code(s) please contact your placer directly. DO NOT HIT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL. Your placers are your main contact from this point on and emails sent to this address will not be able to be responded to as efficiently as your placers. Please get your questions to them quickly. They will also be leaving for Black Rock City shortly.

----------------------------------------------------

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES

Apologies, we experienced some technical difficulties with [email protected]. From 3:00 PM on Saturday to 10:00 on Sunday we were not been able to access our mail there. This could explain some silence on our part. Although our crack tech team believes that they have fixed the problem, please go directly to your placer if you have any concerns.

I haven't heard anything regarding the two e-mails I sent to my placer c/o placement...
'Then this came in the Placement announcement today...

In 2008, placement was announced 26 days before the start of the event, and early arrival passes started mailing 12 days before the start of the event.

This year, placement was announced 28 days and early arrival passes started arriving 18 days before the start of the event.
