Very, very true.
Virgins should just wander their first year, and wonder.
How in the hell did they think of that, or why in the hell did they think of that.

OK, been there done that, but ... i have trouble just doing the old stuff ....

Sorry, it's easier for those of us who have been goofing around in the SCA and Ren Faire for decades. We got armloads of the "old stuff". :)

Hey littleflower, I wasn't trying to rain on your parade. Just do whatever comes to you and I'm sure you'll be fabulous. It's tough to come up with things that are going to be truely unique because there have been, literally, hundreds of thousands of people that have been in your shoes before you. Do whatever you feel and do it with pride. Then get out there and rock it. I already get the feeling like you are going to have an excellent time out there. Embrace it and have fun. If someone judges you out there kick them in the balls and keep on partying. They just don't get it.

really .... i do NOT think i can come up with something so amazing it has never been seen at burningman!!! i'm going there to be amazed ....

i'm just struggling with the barbarian theme a bit ... i love it, but the artist in me is struggling a little... my inner seamstress is struggling, too ... i can't find her ... :)

 I just had my first sewing lesson. I don't think I can even remember how to thread the machine. One thing I would suggest is to throw a pad and pen into your bag (or maybe a piece of charcoal and some bark :) ) when you go out exploring. There's a lot of inspirational things you'll run into on the playa and if you're like me you'll be making plans for next year before you leave and kicking yourself for all of the ideas that you already forgot.

Nonsense! You're an artist; your imagination will help you create something unique that no one else at BM has thought of. :)

When in doubt, check to see what others have done :). Here is a picture of Sandahl Bergman as "Valeria" from the Conan The Barbarian movie:

Now, I'm not saying you should create a skimpy outfit, but what I am saying is consider this as one possible starting point :). Consider also an historically researched women's Viking outfit (taken from this webpage: http://www.fossilscience.com/research/V ... hought.asp) :

!!!!! there is a very wide distance between those two ...!

the problem is ... this is me (the real one, i mean):

barbaric enough ... but ... not very anachronistic ... ?

i can even figure out the lower part, but the head ... i can't find anything barbaric with plenty of shade. i did make a headband, but it looks silly ... i kinda want something more like some of the hats in fellini's juliet of the spirits:

what is condi doing in this?

Wow, that evolved into very meaningful exchange for a while. Hadn't poked my head out around here in a while and thought I'd drop by and see how that meeting went. From the four pages of dialogue and planning, I'd say well!

So long as it's still gravy, my wife (yes wife not fiance now :D ) and I are still planning on joining you guys... Ugly, I know after your meeting you said you'd get back to us as out-of-towners and let us know if there's anything we can do or help with. We can't bring a whole lot being that we're flying in, but we're out in the area for a night before driving to BRC.

Also - saw the conversation drifted to steel - I've got a buddy of mine who is a local blacksmith here in Florida, he does sharpened and 1/16" stage edge stuff, anywhere from utilitarian to fancy, fantasy blades. I can get any of his stock pieces really cheap for a barbarian in need of a trusty edged companion

here's his website - www.sterlingarmory.com

By the way, REALLY looking forward to meeting everyone. Should be a colorful group if nothing else.

Littleflower, head covers are a little over-rated. Check BM videos and you'll see that not everyone has a head-cover, goggles and dust mask on 24/7. :)

However, some sort of desert veil is very practical. Look to the barbarians who live in the desert.

Ace, please drop in to our Tribe site for offline conversations. I am interested in working around what you can bring.

I have a 10x20 carport. But, aside for my bedding, and a segregated area at the back for shower facilities, (for a few reasons) it doesn't look like it will be used for other than socializing - (unless I am pleasantly surprised!).

I also have a commercial shade structure which I had planned for social hanging out in the shade, but it could be used to act as a secondary shade for those of you who bring conventional camping tents.

oh, i don't know, i kinda like this look:

Image

actually ... i usually wear a hat, in a vain attempt at keeping myself from becoming a prune. it would feel strange not to wear one. but i'll think of something.

as for shade structures ... i also have one, a cloth dome thing, the floor is 12' x 12' x 12' ... will it be possible to sort of set them together and cover with burlap, to make some kind of barbarian castle?

That's the spirit :). Beside, the Star Wars sandpeople thing isn't that far off from the barbarian aesthetic . . . from the neck down :).

Nearly finished with the brachiation phase of the ultimate challenge. It's made of Douglas fir.

Yes, DOUGLAS fir, a fine-grained RELIABLE wood, very VERSATILE. As you caress the massive and RIGID 4x4 beams of this RESILIENT wood, you wonder what wondrous person this DOUGLAS must be. You grasp the LONG, THICK ropes of this challenge and as you swing like a chimpanzee, HOOTING in ECSTASY like a gibbon, you yearn to grasp this DOUGLAS in your hands as well...

---

Hi, this is Douglas' psychiatrist, I think that our regime of "playing with his dosages" was a bad idea, for which I sincerely apologize.
