80's Camp (Unofficial) We'll get it right this time :)
A number of lessons were learned last year (2008) regarding making this theme camp happen. Hopefully things will improve for 2009
Once again the idea is put forward, now its just time to start tossing about ideas and plans for 2009.
It's not my intention from sneaking this idea from SHAKEY in any way. This was his idea, and keeping the BM spirit in mind - he still is rolling the (mirror) ball.
Things we learned from last year was securing placement - even if not reserved. Once that is achieved - hopefully long before 2009's burn, those wishing to join in any festivities will be veterans via the planning stages.
Ideally - from reviewing last year's thread, the idea is obviously "commemorating the 80's". The music, the fashion, and the gadgets.
Proposed at this moment is a communial space, with participants camped nearby. This be a rather large tent and entertainment space.
Since the Black Rock City environment has many other activities going on all week, I doubt we as a group do something every night. Perhaps a few evening parties featuring music and other fads from the 80's. Again - the joy of any planning stage is the tossing about of ideas. Perhaps a few small events, and one major event Thursday night. Of course the communal area be available for gatherings all the time at any time.
It is not my intention in any way to steal the show out from under SHAKEY. I am just hoping to continue - with his guidance and input, along with many of the others whom were considering joining the camp from 2008 to 2009. Now its just planning and tossing ideas and see where they lead, as well as whom else is interested and to what degree.
Input, ideas and other thoughts or ideas are most welcome.
Could it be that this be our "evolution"?
Peace,
Figgy

You could try hosting a game night - Trivial Pursuit, Balderdash, other games from the time?
80'S CAMP
Well... 80's Campers...
So, even though we had a rough start with 80's Camp it's nice to see that the interest is still there... "YOU KNOW I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THAT MR. HAND... IF I'M HERE AND YOUR HERE... DOESN'T THAT MAKE IT OUR TIME?... AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH A LITTLE FEAST ON OUR TIME?... Already looking forward to the 2009 party...
Good times... Let's see now... 300 & something days until the '09 80's
party begins...
Be good all

I totally want to be a part of this! How can we get it together? I live in British Columbia. I have a shitload of 80s crap that wouldn't sell in the last garage sale, and for some reason, I can still recall that decade.
Video games! If there was some way to hermetically seal my son's "antique" NES and Atari, I am sure he would let us use it! Donkey Kong and Mario marathon!

80's eye fashion
i will dig up lots of old 80's glasses and have the in my optical boutique camp
I was looking for a place to DJ some 80's music (like I used to do back in the actual late 80's and 90's). I had all my discs with me and just needed some decks. Maybe '09 is the year. I camped with Kostume Kult this year and probably will again, but would be happy to spin some tunes.
I'm with you on this.
Send me an email, we might be needing something next year as well.

Good to read that there is still interest in this retro theme camp.
I have been off-line due to a real nasty virus attack and recently just started rebuilding my software (Microstiff still sucks big time).
I had been entertaining the idea of making the trip from the northbay area to this weekend's decompression, but real world schedule makes this real tight, unless I find someone from the Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Sonoma area that is making the trip. (gas and entrance fees are very negotiable for volunteer driver - PM me if interested prior to Thursday before decompression.)
Otherwise, keep sharing those ideas here, and eventually we can make this happen - unless the evolution of the current scene gets real bad and we all end up in work camps and bread lines.....
Let the good times roll...

I am really looking forword to this. I didn't get to see this camp in 08, so I was wonder just where you guys were camped?
I will be bringing some virgins with me this year, and we are just going to camp with some friends, but as for all day everythings, I am more than willing to bring music, clothing, hair gel, and help participate in anything you guys do.
Sadly I was only born in the 80's, so I never really lived them like I did the 90's. I really just want to be with a camp that isn't blasting techno all day :D

We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.
C'mon Sarra,
You and your friends are welcome at 80'S Camp... So, Question... What was Judge Rienhold's caracters name in the movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High?... Anyone, anyone... Beuler... How 'bout this one... What did Ally Sheedy sprinkle on her sandwich in The Beakfast Club?
Last one... From the movie Sixteen Candles... Who did Samantha (Molly Ringwald) say she wanted to do it with in her sex ed quiz? Okay... That's the homework for now... Enjoy and look for more soon... 80'S Camp, good times ahead at BM 2009!

PS: the themesong HAS TO BE "1985" by BOWLING FOR SOUP
lyrics here: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/bowlingforsoup/1985.html
"Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985"
