80's Camp 2009 (Official)

Post by SHAKEY » Thu Oct 30, 2008 4:10 pm

Hi 80's Campers!

We are getting a great start for 80's Camp for 2009!... Bigger and better then '08! I Can't wait! (Nu Shooz - 1986) Here's the low down... It's kinda like "Stag Camp"... Just a fun group of 80's lovin' people havin' a great time at BRC. No pressure and we all bring what we need to survive for a week on the playa... and help each other out and party together. And the best part is celebrating the 80's! You know the 80'S... Rubik's Cube, Acid washed jeans, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, hot pink, the new Coke, Valley Girls... And some of the best music of all time... 80'S Camp, for all of you that love what the 80'S represent. So let all share ideas and plan for BM 2009 @ 80'S camp on the playa... This is not a registered camp at this point, just one we all create and it should be totally awesome. And if your trying to figure out a place to camp for the burn... Girls / guys, why not 80'S camp. We can all dress up in our 80'S wear and have a great time. If you love Madonna, dress like Madonna, If you love Uncle Buck, dress like Uncle Buck, Whatever! Or any 80'S fasion statement... You get the idea. I will have all the 80's music for eveyone to groove to. And If your new to Burningman everyone can try to fill in the blanks when needed... As Jeff Spicoli said in Fast Times... "SO WHERE IS THIS PARTY ANYWAY?..." The party is at 80'S camp... Stay in touch and the months will pass... 300 and something until the '09 party begins!

**Fenwick has posted an unofficial 80's Camp thread... We can stay in touch with both.

Party on!

80's Camp recruit

Post by tinkerbelle90 » Thu Jan 15, 2009 9:24 pm

Hey out there, it sounds just like a virgin. Last year my first time. WOW. I still don't know how to describe it to non-burners! I was part of the Hundred Monkey Camp last year and it was a blast! I have saved/preserved some of my 80's attire, more along the Cyndi Lauper style, but I ain't shaving the side of my head....yet. My son is coming with me and he is part of the fire conclave. Please let me know if we can add to the fun, it is just too vast to try to camp alone....ahhh
Peace

Well the game show idea was a good one posted in the other thread, other than that, I was thinking, I dunno...What kind of drinks did they have in the 80's? What was popular? Like ZIMA's? Or was that the 90's...
Well I can bring alot of hair "care" products such as gel, color, headbands sunglasses, whatever.
As for the camp itself....colorful and tacky? Maybe someone keyboards around it

Drinks popular at the NCO Club at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina were " 7 & 7's", Seagram 7 and 7-Up; Seperators or black russians ;and Sloe Gin Fizzes. Doubles with a beer back were for slamming...

I think the wine cooler of the 80's was Bartels & James... Oh Yah! Just over 200 days and counting until the 80's party begins! Bring you acid washed shorts, your hot pink, Your madonna bras, your lace gloves and whatever else fits your 80's mood and let's have a great time!

80'S CAMPERS

Post by SHAKEY » Sat Feb 07, 2009 8:06 am

Hi 80'S Campers!

Well... We are still trying to figure out our location for 2009. Last year we were on the out-skirts @ 9:30 & Jeep... The wind and dust was better there. I think if possible we would like to be in a little closer and shoot for a corner location. Stay in touch and keep the 80's ideas comin'.

Good times!

In the 80's I remember doing lots of B-52 shots (or at least I think I remember doing them)...

As scary as it sounds I think I still have a pair of parachute pants somewhere around here, but I'm pretty sure I tossed my "Members Only" jacket awhile back.

Theme related, the Human Genome Project started back in the 80's.

Could always do a life-sized/live-action Pac-Man game (somehow).

And probably more relevant post-burn - Prozac was released in the late 80's.

The wind and dust was better there? Meaning more or less? No avoiding wind and dust, my friend...speaking of which was Kansas' Dust in The Wind 70's or 80's? Rad song either way....

But John Cougar Rules!

Just found a hanger full of knit skinny ties! Throw in some capezios and some padded shoulder shirts and it's on!

Sweet!

I'll bring my 1981 Casio VL-Tone Calulator/Keyboard and play some totally rad tunes while solving people's dome calculations for the following year!

Man, the fact that you still have the pristine carry case scores you extra bonus Space Invader points with me!

Are there going to be themed music nights at the camp? I'm still kicking myself for missing somebody's Elvis Costello Sing-Along in 2007!

I've got the original box packaging that the case and keyboard came in as well! It's a little worn, but the case and keyboard are mint! How many bonus Space Invader points does that get me?

LMAO!!! I remember setting my hair accidentally on fire with a cigarette while waiting in line to cash my paycheck at the Peppermill once. I think it was about 1988. Since I don't really smoke anymore I suppose I could rat out the hair real big at least one night (make mental note to avoid the fire spinners!) Might have to find someone with a generator so I can crimp it! For even more "biggerness"

I love the Casio keyboard calculator! That is boucoup bonus Space Invaders points!, although Centipede was my personal favorite game of the time.

Small world-- I was a bartender at that very casino when you did that, though I never heard the story until now.

It wasn't a huge fire! It was quickly contained with my hand and didn't require assistance, I just singed a lot of my hair (about an inch on my right side of big hair) and had to live with that horrific burnt hair smell for about 3 days, it wouldn't wash out! :P
