heard of any Theme camp's with Live Music Stages?

Post by Lantz Lazwell » Tue May 19, 2009 7:42 pm

Have the D.J.'s officially taken over BRC? haven't heard of much talk about live music stages at any theme camps this year.... I've been apart of live music showcases @ Burning Man since 99'.... Never have i seen such a lack of Venues for Live music in BRC.... don't get me wrong, i love a little whomp whomp, and some boom boom clack boom..... and blinky lights, wait, strike the blinky lights and glow sticks..... what im trying to say is, i like to have a Choice of what dusty, over driven, sound system i listen too... the Choice to listen to someone play a pre-recorded track of the latest top 40's dance hit, or to hear someone play an actual live instrument, with real live drums and an actual human voice..... No offense! But we all have our preferences.... Mayb im on my own here, but i hate to see live music lose its place here at Burning Man....

Otter camp had a massive professional sound tent shaped like a saddle, and they only had one show (Albino) the whole time. I'm sure they'd be willing to have other people come fill their tent with sound...

Go to the main site (burningman.com) and poke around until you find the list of theme camps from last year. The contact information may still be good.

Live, acoustical music, especially the really weird type, is always welcome at Barbarian Camp. Although we don't currently have a stage.

The guy in charge of our camp (Bicycle ID tag camp) got a generator and speakers and other relevant equipment and wants to build a stage for live performances of any kind.

Lantz - your agent contacted me, not my cup of tea. Contact me yourself, and we can talk about it, but the commercial approach won't work for us, sorry brother. music sounds good though!

*** i agreee*!*where's all our diversity in sound expression
i'm an 11 year burner,,, i remember the day, i would be stomping thru the rain with a foot of mud on my cow girl boots *& fire toys & i would easily stumble upon a badass rock band or harp player* i used to go out at anytime of day or nite a decade ago & find amazing live music to perform with* now it's true i feel so bullied by the rave scene & boring repetative beats
i would luv to know where the live, raw artistic sound expression is going down this year* can we please bring it back????? i miss it sooooo
especially the night of the burn
i feel like a firefly lost in the giant thumps, a spider web being blown over by a tornado, a sparkle of light being sprayed by black coal ((k, that ones weird,,, but you get my drift))
i'm with you on this*

Spinning over the fire for a nice even roast. ;)

Skinny Kitty Teahouse will have a piano again and encourages musicians(turns off the canned music). We also inherited Otter's saddle tent. Talk to the Teamaster at BRC.

Our camp The Lost Penguin Café hosts an open stage with scheduled and drop-in performances throughout the day.

There WAS a camp called 'The Roadhouse' or somesuch from PA in 2006 and that was a straight-up whiskey and bear rock and country roadhouse with a jam-aoke band (i.e. you could go up and sing with 'em)

We visited early in the week and loved it.

When we went back later, it was gone - they had to leave early.

I'd love to see a RockNRoll camp again...

Camp Tsunami hosts only live music - no DJs allowed.
Anyone with a band / talent / desire to rock a stage please PM me and I'll put you in touch with the music coordinators.

Hair of the Dog also has a live music stage, with a mix of existing bands and pickup jams.

Live Music at the Golden Cafe

Post by Lucifer » Sun Jul 19, 2009 7:48 pm

The Golden Cafe has been doing live music, primarily jam sessions with guest musicians and vocalists from around the world, going on 7 years now. We cover all styles and genres, with some of our favorites being hot jazz with lots of horns, and bluegrass when the boys with the washboards and harmonicas show up. We've had a piano in the past, and hope to scrounge one up this year as well. We also hope to find a laptop jockey or two who know how to jam with oldschool musicians.

The most exciting developments for 2009 are that we're building a professional recording platform to carry the performances into the real world after the burn, and we're assembling a special team to play something oozing with cool during our famous gourmet supper club - speaking of which, a handful of coveted supper club invites are reserved for the team that handles the music.

Our overall goal is not just to keep raising the bar in terms of the quality of live music in BRC, but to explore exciting fusions of different styles and instruments - we figure if the chefs can pull together the voodoo seafood gumbo, and the bartenders can pull together the flaming cinnamon martinis, the musicians ought to be able to pull together something similarly inspired. If you have some voice, some skills, some technical wizardry, or some instruments to bring to the party, please message us or contact us through our site - walkins are always welcome and encouraged, but a little coordination ahead of time sometimes makes the impossible possible...

Light and heat,

Lucifer

Reposted from the boston burners mailing list:

A CALL FOR EVENTS:

Automatic Subconscious, one of Boston's perennial fixtures on the playa, is again headed back to Burning Man. Our large scale project this year is the creation and construction of a public dome (though not geodesic! ;] ). This grand public space will be the focal point
of our camp and the place to be for a great many of the fun activities
and events going on at Automatic Subconscious! Facilities in the dome availible to the public and availible for events include a performance stage, sound system, a cocktail bar, an upper level of
hammock type netting in the shape of a donut, and also capabilities for arialist performaces within the dome (though a rig still needs to be procured. Maybe you have your own you could set up?)

Consider this a public call out to anyone and everyone who may like to use this great public space for an event of any kind.

With some very exciting events already scheduled, we hope to host a great many more events designed to be fun and unique, and attract people down to our camp to
enjoy themselves and the facilities that we gladly provide to the greater
community! Should you yourself be interested in throwing your own event at Automatic Subconscious, you may choose to utilize some of the resources within the
dome itself mentioned above.

Now then, I encourage you to come up with some kind of creative happening for
which we can attach your name and the Automatic Subconscious stamp, and
have it put in the "Who What Where When" guide. (for n00b's: this is a full listing of events and happenings at Burning Man given to each burner as they enter the gates)

Events can be anything you would like!
Anything that interests you in whatever form that may take. Events like the
following:

- Discussion group
- Tea party
- Art workshop
- Aerialist performance, discussion or workshop
- Group meditation session
- Lecture
- Free Iran rally
- Mime
- Comedy routine
- Musical performance
- Yoga/Tai Chi/exercise
- Happy hour
- Exchange top secret military and defense info
- Play a group game
- Invite everyone down to stand on their heads
- Lie in the hammock netting above and make up lies
- Michael Jackson appreciation party
- Michael Jackson condemnation party

So if you have something you think you'd like to
do/host, figure out what day during the week and time of day you
would like to do your event.

Please submit your event to ME (at [email protected]), NOT the list.
Please provide the following information:

Your Name
Title of Event
Description of Event
Day of the week of the event
Time of day of the event (be as specific as possible)
Preferred and reliable CONTACT info (as we may need to confer)

Times/Days are first come first serve. I will take care of submitting the details to the "Who What Where When" guide, so please do not do so yourself. This is to prevent double bookings and confusion.

DEADLINE FOR THE GUIDE IS IN TWO WEEKS!!! PLEASE SUBMIT ASAP!! Tx.
