Petition to bring Camels to the playa
I heard burning man is in the desert this year. Very exciting! Camels would be really useful for carrying equipment as they have been for thousands of years. So I guess my question is, are camels just going to show up because its the desert or do we have to mail order them like russian brides?

I suppose if you put some sort of shit catcher under their butt (like horses that pull carriages in cities) you'd be all good. Though some place on the main site I read they don't allow dogs or pets.shroom wrote:I just watched the 'Journey to the Flames' dvd again and there are camels in it. Are camels at burning man? Or was this some one time thing?
But, is a dressed up camel a pet or art?

I suspect that you couldn't get them out there now. Those camels started a legend concerning their excrement. Camels are moopy.

Yeah, the camel thing turned out to be a disaster.
I have always wanted to see a sunrise cavalry charge across the playa with authentically garbed cavalrymen with bugle and all.
Just a quick in/out thing with the animals but it would be expensive and probably have to be done early in the week before there are discarded bikes all over the open playa.

camel poop is not moop
I spoke to the guy giving camel rides on the playa many years ago. He was so pissed about having to explain over and over that the camel poop is bio-degradable and not Moop. He swore he'd never come back.

Re: camel poop is not moop
Doesn't matter. Not quite sure what it would do on playa, because of the simple ecosystem, but human crap and dog crap are as biodegradable and are not permitted on the playa. (Or rather, I suppose, must be cleaned up if there is any on the playa.) Why should camel be different?lennyjones wrote:I spoke to the guy giving camel rides on the playa many years ago.
