Fritz Lang's Metropolis Rereleased With More Scenes

Post by some seeing eye » Sat May 01, 2010 10:19 am

Everyone knows the silent film Metropolis (1927) depicting everyday worker creatives toiling for over 20 years underground in dust, heat and smoke. They create the city for the evil overlord, year by year. Then the overlord orders the creation of a robot hottie, subservient to his every desire. Of good heart, she rebels, for true love, leading the 50,000 creative workers who tend the machines, and make all the works of beauty, for the city and for free, to victory, reclaiming the city for humanity and freedom!

This summer, there is a new release of the film with newly discovered footage. Yes it is Kino's business to sell the film to masses, but you can see the trailer at and

If you haven't seen the film, it's recommended, though I would say it has nothing to do with the festival in the desert, nothing whatsoever, they are totally different, completely unrelated, no connection at all.

I heard there was a sequence with the nude mudbaths. This did not show up in the footage on Youtube.

The last version I saw had the footbaths.
Nothing dramatic though.

They keep finding more film.
There's a lot more of Metropolis.

REally, Boijoi, no worries. In the three years or so between Metropolis and M Lang really went off the charts artistically. Or maybe he had a better story and a better actor. And M hasn't been mangled in the same way that Metropolis has. As someone who spent too much of her life trying to be cool, and even appreciated some odd, pretentious stuff for more than that, just go on past Metropolis and find something else. Although, if you want to leave a few stills around from it, just for art deco's sake, that's okay.
