the ethics of running an Early Mornin' Shit Talkin' Bar...

Post by Peacekeeper » Mon Mar 22, 2010 5:17 am

Hey Noble citizens,

So, both myself and others are in the throes of planning our themecamp, composed of several differnet groups coming together into one fell entity, and one suggestion that has come up as an interactive activity is the idea of running an early morning bar, that only opens between 7-11am...

However, before we all subscribe to this (degenerate) vision, I thought it would be a good idea to get some input & opinion from the citizenry of Black Rock city, cos i'm a little worried that an early morning bar might a) get too messy, and b) impact negatively on the surrounding neighbourhood...

Therefore, I'd love to hear peoples response to this idea: i think it can be done in a way that won't aggravate too many people, but perhaps I'm not thinking of all the consequences?

Look forward to hearing from y'all!

I find that more people want coffee than booze at those hours, so make sure to have a pot brewing!

In the past, some of my fav bars were morning bars... coffee(with additives!), bloody marys & screwdrivers... I think the key is the music - mellow, acoustic, world or classical - that way, hopefully, you'll encourage a 'mellow' vibe and not irritate the neighbors...

There is nothing worse then me coming home to watch our bartenders slinging the close keys...whaaaaa~

All I wanna know is where your camp!!!

Dont worry about BRC, it will fend for itself on noise issues!(unless your setting up next to HUSHVILLE, there isnt problems with noise)
If its too loud....go home!

Be sure to set up near a bank of JOTS. Shit Talking and Shit Taking go hand in hand at that early hour.

I too thoroughly agree that morning bars rock!!! Wheather it be the walk of shame, walk to the JOT, morning walk, or ministry of silly walks, every walk that ends at a morning bar is a good one!
Gaminwench is definitely right about the music. Wheather I've been up all night partying or I'm just waking up, a mellower music is always nicer.

Great idea! Nothing like having a drink in the morning. Beer and eggs for breakfast is one of my favorite combos. An early morning bar with good conversation and mellow vibe sounds like a perfect addition. I say do it.

I'm not sure how ethics come into this.

Unless you're asking because you intend to knock out your clientele and sell them to the nearest undermanned ship give them to the DPW for camp bitches.

Mmmmmm, coffee.

Last year I visited a friend who was running a coffee camp. Once we had our coffee, she said "you should go next door, to Crepe Camp".

Now, THAT was a good morning.

too right - its misinformation all the way at BM'10!!!

Thanks for all the feedback folks, we'll assuredly be providing coffee, have no fear, and maybe.. even.. juice? probably in mimosa form, but i guess even hippies sometimes get up early, and we'll take care of them too...

as for fudge? well, we don't normally, but perhaps we'll pack some this year - always like to try new things at BRC, oh yes...

We used to bicycle tour, and at least one day always started with potatoes O'Brien, eggs and Guiness. All you need to start an active day.

Shit is a nautical term. It means store high in transit. S.H.I.T.

Long ago manure was used as ballast in the bottom of ships. With the addition of seawater which seeped through the wood hulls, manure rotted and produced methane gas. After several ships exploded due to methane explosions, manure was crated and ordered stored above board or on top of other loads. Crates were required to be marked as a safety measure.

A shitload is another nautical term, and has various meanings.
