For those few who care, where would they look if in fact they wanted an official notice of the theme?

Art to theme, presumably, as the theme is out well before the grant applications are do. But we can all think of some work that didn't conform to the theme that got funded.
(All? maybe not. But many of us on this board can name names...)
Yeah, the theme is sort of a wash, and I am one of more than a few (is that a fuzzy enough qualifier?) who have the whole "I don't care about the theme" pose down. (Now Eric has to find a clever name for it, and Kit O'Connell has to put it in the lexicon; then I"ll know I've arrived as a trendy annoyance.) But I will admit that for some people, having the theme to work with or against gives them the grip they need to start creating.

I'm one of them. Helps the thought process get a jump start..

It's much easier to be creative with something already there, than it is to face a blank piece of paper. (Yeah, mmost of my art training was in traditional media.)

Maybe the theme is OBLIVION and they are simply creating a void of information to accentuate its announcement.

How do you suspend a Turkey? Well, I'm sure there will be a demonstration and probably a flogging demo right after.

Well, this is one way to suspend a turkey. Although, not a recommended way.
No flogging, either.

I got it! the theme is "Patience and Understanding" that's why they are making us wait to find out what it is!
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

My guess is they're reevaluating how they do ticket sales now that the event will surely sell out (yes yes, double meaning, whatever). In the SFGate article, Larry Harvey said they were mulling over different strategies, one of them being a lottery, which would SUCK in my opinion. Either way, they'll need to upgrade their servers or contract with a better vendor, because the onslaught of people logging on at 10am when tickets went on sale in 2011 will be nothing compared to 2012.

And now they have taken down (from the home page of the BMan website) not only the actual date the tickets for 2012 go on sale (which was up until just after the burn), but also any mention of tickets going on sale at all. Sigh...

Aha! I can see it now...

BRC 2012 - Theme - End of sanity - Revenge of the BMOrg. Ticket Status? - No tickets will be sold or needed, instead you will need 3 or more tickets from any previous events (must be different years) to gain entry.

Love the ticket idea Sue. Or, if only there was a way to give first choice of tickets to burners who typcially arrive before Wednesday. Such a different crowd during the start of the week. That community all week long would = heaven!! And this year, with tickets selling out, it seemed like the city actually filled up on Tuesday, not Friday/Saturday. Did anyone else feel that way? So many people out, and no crazy influx of traffic on Friday & Saturday to create a ton of dust! I can't remember seeing so many clear days on the playa...

Lastly, my suggestion for the theme this year: A Perfect Circle.

Miss all you ePlayans... haven't been on steady since 09... you may see more of moi.
