2nd time burner wants to do simple theme camp, perhaps alone

Post by Weinstain » Thu Feb 24, 2011 10:35 pm

A western theme camp with a corral peeps can paint western themes on the outside (tyvek suspended on pvc pipe sheathed tie rods) and shoot one another with water guns on the inside. There will also be a covered wagon looking shade structure, tp like shower, and some western themed ornamentation.

I can easily bang this together myself, but would want to be open only a few hours each day before sunset. Meaning, maybe leave the camp unattended and therefore unenterable the rest of the time, except when I am there for sleeping, etc.

i think i left this post on another part of the board.

cannot do a theme camp alone?

Post by Weinstain » Thu Feb 24, 2011 10:50 pm

Is it true that if I try to go it alone that my camp will not be listed or placed?

Why do you want it placed? You're at the mercy of the planners. You don't need to be registered to be a "theme camp."

If I recall correctly, they do not place camps with fewer than 5 campers.

If you're going to have a one man theme camp, you might want to work on fabricating some sort of animatronics. This can be as basic as townfolk figures making a welcoming wave hello, to various mechanized cast of characters doing western themed jobs such as branding horses or whatnot. The more movement the better.

i appreciate the input. i am a she, btw. umm, nice idea about the animatronics, but thats a bit over budget but reminds me just to show up, put up, and put out. dont worry 'bout anything else. I think i would have like to have placement so i could get in early and set up, but maybe i will build community by people volunteeering to help.

also, i liked being out at "i" street and 6 oclock and want to return there.

now, i have to decide to bring travel trailer or not because i dont have anything to haul it with (15').

ok, thanks, i wont ask for listing -- probably just good as it is.

I agree, animatronics are not a way to go. I'm sure that Jellyfish is heavily involved with simply a man and his dog. Better to have townsfolk with arms that wave in the wind.

Be sure to have strong visual cues (a rope?) when the place is closed. People are idiots.

Actually, the townsfolk's arms could wave back and forth via wind driven power. You could place a connecting rod to this greywater evaporator if you had a crank going through outer side of the frame. I've seen such moving cut-out pictures at the county exhibits at the State Fair.

It would be easy to power this dancing bear with a 12 volt motor. You could use a hat and some clothes to convert this bear into a western themed character.

I don't think you'd need high tech animatronics for your simple western theme.

that windmill 'blew" my mind, even that is way too advanced for me. Plus, what happens when the sand gets in? Great idea though...so much could be powered with evaporating greywater if this really works.

i am going for the abstract impressionism look, anyway. suggestive stuff, not necessarily literal. In fact, that will be the main inspiration for the painting, abstract western landscapes ala Maynard Dixon style with examples of Dixon's work; hence, the "Thunderbird" theme. People will be allowed to paint there, that's the basis the interactivity.

i dont need "campiness" or "irony" too much, but a wind wheel certain would help with the look, maybe. I wish I knew more how to construct a useful one.
