Building a Lego camp : the LEtsGO Lounge
The LEtsGO Lounge is looking for campmates!
We’ve turned on the planning faucet and the camp planning machinery is once again humming along. We have a couple of returnees from previous years, but are always open to having fun, fresh, dependable faces in the mix. Ideal campmates would be fun, self sufficient, laid back/drama free, & non smoking (at least in camp) My aim would be to have synergy between all the campmates. We don’t need hang out every minute of the day, but when we see each other, we enjoy each other’s company and strive to help each other. We can recount our experiences over a communal meal, and if one of us has had too much libations, we know that our campmates have our back.
The theme camp is named the LEtsGO Lounge. We have gallons and gallons of Lego building blocks for people to come in and build art cars or whatnot, while having drinks, shooting the breeze, etc. but open to other ideas as well. I have two geodesic domes, which would be heart of the camp infrastructure. There would be no required hours to work, no deposits needed, and it won't be a full time, loud music, boisterous bar..... basically, if you're hanging out at the camp, it would be 'open', and if no one is at the camp, then it is ' closed'. We are all probably going to be busy running around the Playa getting into trouble anyway. I’d like to have a few ‘official’ events that are listed in the guide, but otherwise it would be ‘self serve’. It has worked well for the last couple trips to the Playa.
If this interests you, drop us a line. Tell us about yourself, where you’re coming from, why you want to go this year, what you’re hoping to get out of the experience, and what you can bring to the camp. I’d like to brainstorm and get a rough count of how many campers are in, so we can develop a plan of who is bringing what and when. A skill set we could really use is someone with sewing knowledge and equipment, particularly for heavier fabrics like faux fur. One camp project we want to work on is an improved and efficient evaporation pond.
I’m based in Fairfield, in Solano county, East Bay, California. Halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento.

I love the idea. I would just call it the Lego Lounge, or use Legoland. There is also something called Lego Leauge. Lego Lodge. Lust, lube, lava bed, and lurch all have some good promise. Perhaps 'Lesbians Love Legos' (LLL or L3). You could also use something like 'Lust of Legos' (LOL).

I'll definitely do my best to come by and hang out one day.
The first idea that came to my mind was a "beer and builders" event.
I like that you measure you Legos by the volume, lol. I always just said 'a shit ton'- gallons is much more descriptive.
How do you deal with little legos not ending up as moop?

We line our dome with baseplates glued to plywood as a 'building floor', and rest of the dome area is lined with tarps/sheets. When it is clean up time, we pick up the sheets and funnel the rogue bits back into their storage tubs.
Last year we had a 'Bricks and Booze' mixer on Thursday. Hilarity ensued.

We are still 'in the market' for new campmates!
Helpful tip: When responding, messages such as: "Would like to participate. Please email the details." will probably be viewed as spam and ignored.
Spend some time and tell us about yourself, where you're coming from (physically and mentally), what you bring to the party, and why you think you'd be a great fit with us.

Building a Lego camp : the LEtsGO Lounge
We have a Faceboook page, search for us. 6 weeks to go, and we still are open to the idea of new campers joining us. Come mid August, we'll be locked down with final camp preparations and probably won't be able or willing to get back to people.

Our camp is full, but we look forward to seeing , meeting and building with all of you. If you have unwanted Lego, please bring them with you as our bins always can use a a recharge (at least 1/3 of all the Lego gets adopted out). We will be around 4:30 and Funeral. Look for the Red LEtsGO Lounge sign on the signpost, it'll guide you to our exact location.

Re: Building a Lego camp : the LEtsGO Lounge
We're desiring to go , and strategizing if our core group can go, this year. We appreciate any donations.. out of three huge tubs we took in 2011, only 2 tubs worth came back home with us (the rest were adopted), so we always want to replenish.
I guess this is a time to start soliciting for campmates for 2012!

You may want to consider starting up a thread in the 2012 Theme Camps board for this year's efforts

Re: Building a Lego camp : the LEtsGO Lounge
If you've priced Lego sets, at 50,000 pieces that one would cost just about the same as bringing a whole theme camp to the event.

If everyone who didn't get a ticket chips in a dollar, we could build it.
