I've seen questions here like " how does one start a theme camp ? ". Here is how we did it -
So we are hanging out at our camp near 2:40 and I in 2009. We’d camped in the same spot our first year at Burning Man in 2008, since it was quiet and we knew we could find a spot to camp. I’d gotten married in May of 2009, and since we threw our own wedding in our backyard ( and it rained ), I now had two carports from Costco ( plus my friends 3rd one ), a big improvement from the EZ Ups that nearly blew away in 2008! And we had flag poles too. Boy, were we styl’n !!

One day, and beautiful young lady from San Diego came by. Her name was Katie ( Katy ? ). She befriended our camp, and she and another beautiful young lady friend spent some time drinking and chatting with us. It was part of a wonderful 2nd year at Burning Man. On that Sunday at the end of the Burn, Katie came by and gave me a gift – this metal tinplate sign from an antique shop that said “ One Eye’d Jacks Tavern, Ravage the Wenches, Plunder the Booty “ !
I got home from that Burn and thought to myself, “ I should do something with that sign. So I mounted it in a frame surrounded with Xmas lights with a mannequin head . My first Burning Man camp / “ art “ item was born !!

Then I thought, “ gee, a tavern should have a bar “. Couldn’t find one to buy that I liked, so I built a bolt together easy to transport bar !! This was getting fun !!

If you have a bar, you need a “ jukebox “, so I next built a “ jukebox “ with a boom box and sound activated EL wire drivers ( like 100+ feet of EL wire ) !!

Next came a front sign, and damn, we had a theme camp idea ( and a garage full of stuff ). That and 12 friends that wanted to help run the bar and we were off to our first year as a theme camp in 2010 !!

And that is how Camp D.O.A. was born – it all started with a metal sign from a sweet college coed from San Diego. I blame it on Katie ! ;^ )
