How not to use Kickstarter for your Project

MyDearFreind: I think we should have our rewards in the mail by early July. My plan is just to have a "shipping party" and get the whole crew together to stuff envelopes, but our prizes are a lot simpler then most.

And of course we all say "But TTITD is allot of things to allot of people."
And many of us work 24/7 for the Org.
And many of us starve while our wonderful ideas get the ever living piss trash mouthed, Feeling defeated we ban together to go out into the desert to release it all. the Artist and the muse-less Side by side groaking the IT.

Now KS is a whole other kettle of fish.
As a writer I am more intimidated by proposing a kick Start than I am of sucking it up and eating rice and beans again to research my material. knowing yet not fearing that the project might never pan out.

I'm a virgin, and a burner, and new to eplaya (within the last year) and I fit right in, feel loyalty and love, have irritated some, have been irritated by some....

KS is great, don't like it, don't go there.

I have funded 1 project, it succeeded far beyond it's goal, I got my swag, I will connect with the organizers at the event. Life is good.

IndieGoGo is much better. They don't hold your money hostage. They don't come down on you for getting creative with Twitter. My Kickstarter campaign barely made it, thanks to my mom's credit card, which I will reimburse, so in the end I'm actually getting 50% of my goal, happy for that, but Kickstarter's policy of all or nothing is just plain stupid. Why would I want to put all my effort into a campaign and have it miss by 1% and get nothing? They say it's so projects aren't halfway funded or incomplete. Well, people can adapt and get resourceful and use what they are able to raise, Kickstarter. I'm grateful that Kickstarter is there and I got to use it, don't get me wrong, but thank god there's IndieGoGo! IndieGoGo actually helps you market your campaign, unlike Kickstarter, which just leaves it entirely up to you to spam your Facebook friends and Twitter to your 10 followers (but you can't use Twitter beyond your followers, oh no!). Fucking pompous attitude there. Not everyone has a masters degree in social networking, Kickstarter. I still have little idea, aside from helping Iranians fight for their freedom, just what in the hell Twitter is for... it's like we're all being corralled into this worldwide high school popularity contest by Twitter and Facebook. Kickstarter seems to only rely on this, while IndieGoGo has a longer term, build what you can theme, which makes far more sense to me.

I don't know if Indiegogo is much better, but at least they seem to fit much better with the Burning Man principle of 'Radical Inclusion'. I, as a foreigner, am not allowed to use Kickstarter and I know foreigners who have used Americans or green-card holders to help out and all seem to have gotten into a mess. That sucks totally!

I also agree with Timmymusic that Indiegogo is much more helpful and answers your question, BUT..........it is a fact that Kickstarter is much more wide spread amongst the Burner community and the all or nothing is able to bring in a lot of money in the last week as a shared community effort, so I am going to miss out on all of that. But the main problem I think is that as a foreigner you have no choice between Indiegogo and Kickstarter, because Kickstarter is no-go area ;-(((
