Your chances of getting booking are very slim. There are simply more people who want to spin than there are opportunities.
Use this opportunity to develop another interest.

It's not an "energy" thing, it's a "reality" thing- there is a serious overage of dj's & wanna-be dj's at Burning Man, and unless you're well known you're not going to get a gig by posting on here (and if you're well known you're probably not going to need to post on here in the first place)

You're looking early- this is good. The best way to get a gig is to get involved with a camp, and Sacramento has a Burner community- get on the mailing list on the main Burning Man website, start attending events & networking. Show people your skills, and that you're willing to pull your weight in a camp, not just expect to show up & spin.

It's completely achievable, but it's not going to be given to you. Use that positive energy & get involved and you will probably get that gig you desire!

Later, there will be sticky threads here for stages looking for artists and artists looking for stages. I set them up although I have NOTHING to do with the process. Stay tuned.

But it's totally cool to just wait until you get there and go from camp to camp asking if they need a deejay. Start at First Camp, right near that big tent thing where they make coffee, and ask them exactly where you can go.

I have this horrible feeling that I'm going to have to start a "How to Find a DJ Gig at Burningman."

Fuck booking a gig. Buy a tray, some shoulder straps, some wires, a pair of decent speakers, and anything else you might need. Mix it all together with your laptop in the center and walk around town. If someone likes what they hear, you might be allowed to patch into a larger system. But even if that doesn't happen, you still got to DJ at burning man. I'd even bet that over the week you would of entertained and/or pissed off the same amount of people as you would of playing a normal gig.
I have a little bit of Savannah with me. Shhh...

I wouldnt say that outright. There are some slots that are less desirable that anyone can just about grab. The noon - 2pm slot is usually pretty easy to book.

Like someone else said - your early so that will help.

Maybe for some of the bigger camps this is the case, but not for all of them.

Go and listen to some phenomenal DJ's, enjoy the art, meet some amazing people and eat some fungi.
Don't get yourself too involved your first year. Just enjoy.

Okay, they're a band, not dj's; but most dj's I know mix off of cd's or use ipods if they have to (like during a white-out).

I officially don't like this future.. 2011 already sucks.
I want to see my girly-men dj's all sweaty with clothing missing wondering aimlessly while mixing mediocre melodies.

Like this jack-off..

You nailed it!

Your brain will be exploding in every direction, it would be a shame to miss out on a bunch of stuff because you are pre-occupied with trying to DJ. Definitely bring your music (records melt VERY easily) and ask around a bit but I wouldn't make it the focus of your trip.

It's not easy but it is possible to find gigs while out there.

See you on the playa!!

yea vinyl might not be the best thing to take with you. better of jsut burning cds and make a few different set just in case you get a day slot or morning slot. that is my plan cds only no need to bring my vinyl or any midi contorllers
How do we get from here to the rest of the world?
