I can't sew :( - Need help (berkeleyish)

Post by WildChyld » Thu Jul 15, 2004 9:20 pm

Hey all,

Last year I bought this neat pink latexy dress that didnt quite fit right. The top part of it is sewn on a little too close together but sadly, I can't freakin sew!

Would anyone be willing to either show me how, help me or do it in exchange for my eternal gratitide?

I cant really sew either, beyond basic hand stiching, but I'm an insane crafting "genius," so here's some other ideas.
I don't know about the fabric either, but you could go to someplace and ask. My first guess would be Stone Mountain and Daughter followed by Poppy. Just do the decent thing and buy something there when you do. (Pick up a copy of their class schedule--maybe you can sew next year!)
For a real daring look, you could do a peek-a-boo cutaway thing with the bodice. Have some body painting underneath. Attach a lacy psudo-dickey. Stuff in a handkerchief and pull it out when you want to amuse others. Stuff a really small plush in there. Get Liquid Latex (Good Vibrations--check the stuff to see how hard it will be to get off your skin in the desert) and paint it on there. Or whatever.
If the fabric can hold up to heat, you might try "Fusible Webbing." This can attach another piece of fabric with an iron, not stitching. Check with an expert or if you've got some to get rid of, test. What does the label call it anyway?
Finally, (and maybe even usefully) there was someone on Tribe who was trying to get together some sewing parties for BM. I traded some e-mails with him (I think) and if you PM me with your e-mail address and tribe identity I can pass that on.
Oh, and if you go to the community picnic tomorrow, there will be a costume swap. Bring the dress and ask the people who seem to know what they're doing.
I'm Berkeley too, so all the resources mentioned are local.

I meant e-mail address OR tribe identity. Missfire in the neuralnet and meltdown at conjuntion junction.
