Any burners in Virginia? At all?

Post by Ranger Genius » Thu Jan 13, 2005 7:40 am

I just moved to the Hampton Roads area, and there is no regional burn group here. Is there anyone in the area who would be interested in joining a start-up regional group?

RG,

I don't know of anyone down that way but you might consider joining the Balt-Wash list and posting there. A PDF ago or so I met some folks from down near Richmond. There are people on the list that live in up-state NY and others who live down in the Carolinas.

Mailing lists are under essentials. The list is very active, right now there are discussions concerning vegan lifestyles and music.

I'm already in contact with the PDF folks, thanks silver.

I live in Virginia Beach, not on the beach. We live about 7 miles from the shore in the "strip-mall wasteland" part of Virginia Beach. The furniture store-per-capita ratio is about 1:1.

The furniture store-per-capita ratio is about 1:1.
The cop per citizen ration is still about 12:1

The nasty, testerone fuled aswipe law enforcement officer ratio remains at about 12:1 as well.

What do you expect from a town where it's illegal to swear in public places and Pat Robertson is the single largest politcal benefactor in the city?

Ah, Virginia Beach, my mother's favorite vacation destination.

Is that what those signs mean? When my wife and I went to the boardwalk, I kept asking "what the fuck do those signs mean? Does that mean I can't swear? Holy shit!" I wonder if they can legally do that. I'll have to look up the local ordinances.

I've heard horror stories about the local fuzz, but have yet to have an encounter with them myself.

It all has to do with the 'negro problem.'

By chance (I'm sure) the enforcement doesn't start ramping up until spring. Specifically, spring break. Seems a lot of black students from all over the east coast converge on Va. Beach as the destination for a week of fun. A friend told me that the 'negro problem' (NOT the band) reference was something actually quoted at the town council meeting when the legislation was being taken up.

BTW, head over to the Jewish Mother restaurant near the corner of Laskin and Pacific before it closes for good. This means soon. Great food, good drinks and supposedly a gathering place for closeted liberal from around the area.

I remember there being some unrest down there during what I believe were called "greek week" festivities several years ago when I was living in NoVa ( Fairfax County, to be precise ). I don't remember exactly what the trouble was all about but I remember hearing it being mentioned on the news quite a bit at the time. A google news search pulls up nothing interesting about it, though for some reason that phrase sticks in my memory.

I HATED the beaches south of Ocean City, Maryland to the Florida line. Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach ... both suck seriously. I almost got arrested in Myrtle Beach for leaving my motel room and walking across the parking lot with a beer. I was just back from having spent the last five years in Europe and I was all like "what the fuck is YOUR problem? I am of age, I bought this with my hard earned, I am not hurting a soul, I just went to the car to get a cassette tape and all of a sudden you are talking penal codes and stuff ... for WALKING?" He didn't appreciate it one bit but man, the next morning we were SO out of that town.

Vacation at Myrtle Beach? Shoot, I would rather spend a week in Tulsa.

I walked past the Jewish Mother a while ago. Maybe we'll go out to eat tonight... these military people are unbearable. Thanks for the tip.

Maybe I'll have to get some t-shirts with slighly misspelled expletives on them. One of those FCUK shirts.

No.

Go to the South End Pub

http://www.vbseafood.com/wst_page2.html

Eat some of the freshest crab on the east coast, swill back a few beers and stay for the show. The place is a fish market, small and small restaurant that turns into a punk rock club/bar after the restaurant closes. Pick up the hooded logo sweat shirt. Worth the price. Blenderhead almost tore mine off my back trying to get it from me.

Oooh, Sensei's ready to order now.

We've got the world's best oysters here in the great north-wet but those crabs look awfully tempting...

I'll start with the Crab Balls & Pups appetizer at $6.50 and then move on to the Fried Softshell Crab sandwich for $7.95. Better get a couple pounds of crab legs at $11.95 per pound from the Raw Bar, too.

I'm going to need some extra cocktail sauce here, 'nkay?

Woah! Virginia was just dragged kicking and screaming into the 1960's this week! It is now legal (finally) for single heterosexuals to have sex!

http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/vi ... s-virginia

Blowjobs are still illegal, though, as is anal and homosexual sex.

That's useful to know. Thanks for the pointers..er..iso. I'll have to czech the place out. We're not much for seafood, but when you grew up in Utah, seafood was usually something you found in the freezer section.

Blue crab. Also known in local parlance as 'jimmies' which are the males. Mean, MEAN bastards they are. The meaner they are the sweeter the meat BTW.

Great things to place in your dorm mates bed before he gets home at 3am from a fraternity party.

I'm bumping this in the vain hope that someone around here will see it. Any other recommendations for places to go around here. Badg?

Two years later..................................

We have a BRC regional contact now, getting official (though we're still not listed on the regionals page). Virginians, we are working on regional events near you. Check out our listserv for more info:
